Five Terps Garner All-Region Accolades

    COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Five student-athletes from the Maryland women's lacrosse team earned IWLCA All-South Region selections with four Terrapins being named to the First Team. Seniors Becky Clipp and Krista Pellizzi and juniors Dana Dobbie and Kelly Kasper were all named to the First Team while senior Katie Doolittle was selected to the Second Team.

    Maryland tied for the most selections to the first team with Duke. Both squads garnered five selections to the All-Region teams which were second only to North Carolina's six.

    This is the second appearance for Clipp and Kasper on the All-South First Team. Pellizzi earned Second Team accolades a year ago this marks the second-straight year that Doolittle has been placed on the Second Team. Along with Pellizzi, this is Dobbie's first selection to the First Team as she was placed on the Second Team while with Ohio in 2005.

    All five student-athletes named to the All-South teams were also All-ACC selections in 2007.

    Dobbie was a force in every facet of the game in her first season in College Park after transferring from Ohio University. She led the team with 79 draw controls and 39 ground balls, was second with 53 goals and 69 points, and third with 24 caused turnovers. She also scored a team-high five game-winning goals.

    Dobbie adds to the list of awards she has earned this year as she was tabbed the 2007 ACC Player of the Year, a Tewaaraton Finalist, and a Honda Sports Award nominee.

    Clipp, a 2007 co-captain along with Doolittle, anchored the Maryland defense and was second on the team with 29 caused turnovers, third with 36 ground balls, and sixth with 20 draw controls. She sealed the win against No. 2 Duke back on March 3 when she drew a charge on the Blue Devils' last possession. She was later named the womenslax.com Player of the Week for her effort. Clipp also chipped in on the offensive end with a goal and an assist.

    Pellizzi exploded this season for the Terps on the offensive end as she led the team with 55 goals and 76 points and was third with 21 assists. She also led Maryland with a .505 shooting percentage and 14 free position goals. Her 33 draw controls were second only to Dobbie. Pellizzi was a two-time ACC Player of the Week during the season.

    Kasper contributed in every facet of the game in the midfield as she led the team with 31 caused turnovers, was second with 22 assists, and third with 48 points. She was also fifth on the team in draw controls (28), sixth in goals (26), and seventh in ground balls (24).

    Doolittle was also a force in every area as she was second on the team with eight free position goals and tied for third with 29 draw controls. She also ranked fifth on the team in goals (27) and sixth in ground balls (26) and caused turnovers (13).

    All of the 128 student-athletes named to the first and second teams are now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-American teams which will be announced on May 29. All-Americans will be honored at an awards banquet on June 16 in Downington, Pa.
