Head Coach Brenda Frese

Opening statement:
"It was nice to get the first game underneath our belts. We were able to show a lot of versatility and a lot of different matchups from our end, and it's great to be able to see where we're at defensively. Holding them to 39 points, I thought we did some good things on the defensive end, as well as just making some plays, being able to use our dominance inside in our post play. I think our post players did a nice job of stepping up and being ready to play tonight."

On the team playing well together:
"It's a compliment to our youth because they have bought in, and they're going to be really successful because they're extremely coachable, and they're just all about getting better."

On Lynetta Kizer's play:
"That's what we need from her night in and night out. I thought she brought a real sense of poise, maturity and confidence, and that's how we need her to play. Every time she got a touch, she was very effective with it."

On the play of the freshmen:
"Our freshmen aren't playing like freshmen, and that's exactly how we need them to play. They're playing like the great basketball players that we've recruited here to Maryland, and it's exciting because they're playing with a lot of confidence, and they're playing free on the basketball court. That makes us a better team when they're consistent and they're ready to play from the tip."

Sophomore Center Lynetta Kizer:

On the team's young post players:
"With young post players like we have, including myself, we're going to need somebody to build confidence off of by having composure with the ball. If I'm composed with the ball, then Tianna will be composed with the ball, Essence will be composed with the ball, and our guards will give us confidence by giving us the ball."

Freshman Forward Tianna Hawkins:

On playing her first game as a Terp:
"I was excited and filled with energy and nervous at the same time, but it was a great experience."
