• Maryland won its first-ever meeting with North Carolina Central, 88-39.
• With the victory, the Terrapins improved to 32-7 all-time in season openers. Maryland head coach Brenda Frese is now 7-1 in season openers at Maryland. • The Terps improved their school-record home winning streak to 37 straight victories in the Comcast Center.
• Sophomore Lynetta Kizer set a new career high with 23 points, eclipsing her previous high of 22 last season at Georgia Tech. Kizer also set a new career high in made field goals with 10. Kizer made 10 of 12 field goal attempts.
• North Carolina Central's 39 points scored was the lowest amount allowed by Maryland since Northern Iowa scored 37 Dec. 7, 2007.
• The 49-point win was Maryland's largest since defeating Clemson by 64 points, 110-46, Jan. 6, 2008. • Maryland forced 27 North Carolina Central turnovers, the most since George Mason also committed 27 against the Terps Nov. 12, 2006.
• Six players made their Maryland debut against North Carolina Central and five made their collegiate debuts.
• Freshman Tianna Hawkins led five Maryland freshmen with 15 points while also securing eight rebounds.
• Freshman Essence Townsend led all Maryland players with nine rebounds and four blocks. Fellow freshman Diandra Tchatchouang scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting.
Dara Taylor also played well in her first collegiate game, recording five assists and six steals.
