Maryland Quotes

Head Coach Brenda Frese

Opening Statement:
"We knew Samford was a great 3-point shooting team. To only have one day of preparation, our kids were really ready. They did a tremendous job knowing and understanding the scouting reports to be ready to play. Like I told them, I thought the stat of the game was our unselfish play and our assist to turnover ratio, the unselfishness that we displayed, collectively working together as a team.

On rebounding from the loss Sunday at Mississippi State:
"With this young team, it's all a learning experience. We went through, from Mississippi State, a very poised, veteran team and we just weren't ready from the tip, and they took advantage of that in the first half ... Like I told them, I was proud of the second half, it was a game we competed in the second half when we settled down. If we can take those kind of lessons out of the game, being prepared with such a young team, and I thought tonight's game was going to be a big test, and I thought they did a tremendous job being ready to play."

On the team's 3-point shooting efficiency:
"Remarkable. We really, really shot the ball well. Again, credit to being unselfish in our play, setting each other up and shooting the ball with confidence. That's what we're going to need, we're going to need that kind of 3-point shooting ability from Lori (Bjork) and Diandra (Tchatchouang), and even (Lynetta Kizer) over here to be able to open up the offense."

Sophomore Lynetta Kizer

On the team's progress:
"I think just from a team standpoint, just getting in the gym, getting a lot of extra reps, coming before and shooting around, and staying after shooting around, just getting more reps, that's something that we're really focusing on. That's something that we focused on today."

On adjustments made from Mississippi State game:
"I think that what was most important coming off the Mississippi State game was that we didn't feel that we played as a team. I'm proud of my teammates, to turn around and have an assist-to-turnover ratio of 19-9, I think that's saying that we grew from that Mississippi State game. We just have to learn from here."

On the team's ability to shoot from anywhere on the court:
"Just knowing how each other likes to play, we have that inside game, which is good, we have the outside game, we have a ton of great 3-point shooters. Like Coach (Frese) said, it can range from me, to Tianna (Hawkins), to Diandra (Tchatchouang), to all of our guards who can shoot the threes extremely well, and I think that's what we focused on today, was just finding that open person and taking the best available shot."
