Maryland Quotes
Head coach Brenda Frese
On getting back on the court:
"It's great to finally play somebody other than our scout team and each other, so great to get that first game underway.
On contributions of new players:
"I thought a key for us was just seeing so many new players come out and play with the confidence that they did. Our freshmen didn't play like freshmen and that's something that we're going to have to be able to have throughout the course of the season."
On the team's performance:
"I was really encouraged with our defense. I thought we did a tremendous job of coming out focused and ready to play. Offensively, just being able to have a lot of different options as we're working through some rotations, it was just great to see the variety of ways that we were able to score."
On having senior guard Lori Bjork on the floor:
"Just having her presence and her leadership as a senior, you have great comfort as a coach to know that when the ball is in her hands, she's going to get great looks for each and every one of our players out there."
Freshman forward Tianna Hawkins
On her first game as a Terrapin:
"At first I was nervous, but then once I got on the court, I just put that aside and played the game, and it all came to me."
Senior guard Lori Bjork
On seeing the floor for the first time in two years:
"It was awesome to finally have the jitters, the butterflies and just the excitement of finally getting to play under the lights. It's been a long time coming, so I enjoyed it."
Sophomore guard Kim Rodgers
On changes in this year's team:
"It's much different from last year, having Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver and all of the upperclassmen. We've all had to take on our different roles. Everybody's had to become a leader. It's not just one person. The whole team has to make sure we're all on the same page."
