COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Freshman Tianna Hawkins led all players with 20 points and 10 rebounds, posting a double-double in her first game in a Terrapins uniform as the University of Maryland women's basketball team claimed a 90-48 victory against Bowie State Wednesday evening at Comcast Center in its first of two preseason exhibition games.

Four Maryland players scored in double figures against the Lady Bulldogs. Sophomore Kim Rodgers notched 18 points in only 16 minutes of play, making four of six 3-point attempts. Sophomore Lynetta Kizer scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds in 15 minutes and senior Lori Bjork added another 10 points in her first game in a Maryland uniform.

The Terps opened the game on a 10-0 run in the first 2 minutes, 31 seconds to take command of the contest early. Leading 30-19 with 6:01 left in the first half, Maryland embarked on a 13-0 scoring run en route to a 48-21 halftime lead.

Maryland outscored Bowie State 42-27 in the second half to win by 42 points. The Terps held the Lady Bulldogs to 25.7 percent shooting for the game while shooting 47.8 percent themselves. Maryland also took full advantage of its height discrepancy inside, out-rebounding Bowie State 63-36 and blocking nine shots.

In addition to Bjork, the Terps showcased their four freshman Wednesday and all contributed to the victory. Hawkins led all freshmen with her 20-point, 10-rebound performance, making eight of 12 field goal attempts. Forward Diandra Tchatchouang from France started and scored nine points to go with four rebounds and two blocks. Point guard Dara Taylor came off the bench and led all players with nine assists. Redshirt freshman Jackie Nared grabbed eight rebounds and scored five points and Essence Townsend blocked three shots and hauled in five boards.

Brianna Taylor led Bowie State with 11 points while Teaunsha Robinson and Bianca Lee scored 10 points apiece.

Maryland will play Catholic at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Comcast Center to wrap up the exhibition season before the regular season begins next Saturday against North Carolina Central.
