COLLEGE PARK, Md. - A strong post presence headed by freshmen forwards Tianna Hawkins and Diandra Tchatchouang propelled the Terrapins to a 69-56 win over Loyola.

Hawkins' second career double-double of a career-best 22 points and 10 rebounds led the Terrapin attack. The Clinton, Md., native was 10-for-15 shooting and added two blocks. Hawkins scored 16 of her points in the second half hitting 8-of-9 from the field. Tchatchouang scored 20 points, 12 in the second half, on 8-for-14 shooting and tallied four of the Terps' five three-pointers, a career-best. The efforts of the post players helped Maryland score 36 of its 69 points inside the paint and grab 30 defensive rebounds.

The Terrapins (8-1) used their height to outrebound the Greyhounds (3-5), 50-32. This was the eighth time Maryland grabbed more boards than their opponent.

After three lead changes in the first half, the Terps took charge with a 10-0 run. With the score knotted at eight, Tchatchouang sank her first three of the night followed by her second 30 seconds later. Hawkins then added four points with a jumper and two free-throws. Maryland's largest lead of 19 points came in the second half with 11:29 left on the clock.

Maryland's defense suppressed the Greyhounds' top scorer, Miriam McKenzie, who had been averaging 17 points per game but was held to 2-for-11 shooting and four points this afternoon.

Sophomore Anjale Barrett pulled down a career-best nine rebounds and added three assists, one steal and four points. Freshman Jackie Nared also grabbed nine boards, dished out three assists, had one steal and one block. Sophomore Lynetta Kizer was limited in minutes played but added nine points while on the court.

Maryland will hit the road for their next two games playing first at Towson and then at American. The Terps take on Towson Thursday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. ET in Towson Center before taking a 10-day break for finals. Maryland returns to the comforts of Comcast Center Sunday, Dec. 27 against Stony Brook at 6 p.m. ET. It is the first of three games in the Terrapin Classic.
