Head Coach Brenda Frese
Opening Statement
"First of all I thought that Loyola came out and played extremely hard for 40 minutes and I thought they definitely came out with more intensity and were extremely aggressive. I'm disappointed obviously in our game. Collectively, as a team, I thought we kind of had a let down from our Minnesota game and I thought we played in spurts. But credit our two freshmen here, Diandra Tchatchouang and Tianna Hawkins. I thought they did a great job of being ready to play, making plays for us and helping put this team on their back in different moments when we struggled within this game."
On the freshmen:
"Obviously their character, they're all winners through and through but I think the biggest thing is their poise. When you look at Diandra and Tianna they play well beyond their years. They just give a good, calming presence when they're out on the floor. Their ability to be able to knock down shots, obviously their ability to get to the glass. I thought they both did a tremendous job rebounding the basketball for us today."
On the height advantage for the Terps:
"Absolutely I thought our height gave them problems. I thought they did a nice job doubling down post-to-post. I thought over time Diandra and Tianna did a nice job clicking together with those post passes. So definitely I think the size hurt them as the game unfolded."
On needing to be more physical:
"Obviously when you see this team outmatch a very physical Minnesota team and the physicality we played with in that game to kind of watch us in this game not be as aggressive, not as physical I thought was very disappointing. But again I think with the young team you're going to have that erratic play and that's our challenge to get this young team to play with a level of consistency."
Freshman forward Tianna Hawkins
On the size advantage in the post:
"As coaches said we needed to attack them in the post and I felt that was my time to come in and attack it."
On gaining confidence with every game:
"Yes as the games go by I feel more confident because it's all coming to me."
