COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland 67, Rutgers 47

Maryland Head Coach Brenda Frese

On today's game:
"I thought we did a tremendous job today just understanding that this was going to be a different game. It was going to be more slow-paced and just understanding that it was going to come down to stops on the defensive end and executing on the offensive end. I just thought we did a tremendous job, especially making Epiphanny Prince have to work for any shot she got. I just thought we did a great job defensively, collectively as a team. On the offensive end, again, just great execution and understanding that we needed to take care of the basketball and we did a very nice job."

On their defensive effort against Rutgers:
"Especially with Ephiphanny going 7-for-29, I mean I've watched a lot of their games and she usually doesn't shoot figures like that, so credit our defense. I mean she had to work and every shot she took was a really difficult shot. It was a contested hand in her face. She didn't get many easy looks today."

On the team climbing back into the Top 10:
"We're not concerned about the rankings at all. I think that takes care of itself at the finish line. The important thing for us is improving as a team and getting better. I am excited that every time you challenge this team, we do improve. We've spent a lot of time talking about our defense and to be able to see improvement over these last couple games shows tremendous heart."

Senior Marissa Coleman

On the aggressive style of today's game:
"Definitely, they're an aggressive team and they really pride themselves on their defense."

Rutgers Head Coach C. Vivian Stringer

On the factors contributing to the loss:
"I thought Maryland played better defense than I have seen them play. They were aggressive and they put pressure on us as a group. We had opportunities but this is the worst we have shot in over seven years, and we do a lot of shooting"

On the difference in free throw shooting: "Brittany [Ray] has been a major part of our offense. We went to the free-throw line seven times and Maryland went 28 (times). Several of those were three foul shots that Heather shot. We really are a poor defensive team and we foul people a lot. We know Maryland is one of the best free throw shooting team in America, but we just thought we'd test them out today."

Junior Epiphanny Prince

On pressure to shoot: "I felt like I had to shoot because the entire team was struggling and we couldn't make a shot. When they don't make shots they stop shooting instead of being more confident and trying to see if one of their shots can go in."
