Team Records and Series Notes

         Maryland improves to 14-3 and 2-1 in the conference, while Boston College falls to 10-7 overall and 1-1 in the ACC.

         The Terps have won their last four ACC home openers. They have won all 12 home games this season and 48 straight stretching all the way back to 2007.

         The Terrapins have never lost to the Eagles and are now 10-0 all-time in the series. Their last win over the Eagles was Feb. 27, 2009 with a score of 86-74.

         Maryland will hit the road this weekend to take on No. 10/11 North Carolina in Chapel Hill Sunday, Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m. ET.  The game will be televised on Raycom Sports Network.

 

Team Game Notes

         Line-up: Dara Taylor, Lynetta Kizer, Tianna Hawkins, Lori Bjork, Diandra Tchatchouang. This lineup is a first for the Terrapins and is now 2-0.

         Key run: After heading into halftime knotted at 40, BC took the lead by two to begin the second half. Maryland senior Lori Bjork sparked a 7-0 for the Terrapins when she sunk her fourth three of the game with 17:51 left in the half. The trey was followed by a made jumper by Tchatchouang and a layup by Hawkins.

         Four Terrapins, Lynetta Kizer, Tianna Hawkins, Lori Bjork and Diandra Tchatchouang, scored in double-figure points. This is the 16th time Maryland has registered two or more players in double-digits. The Terrapins are now 6-1 when three or more players score in double figures and 14-2 when two or more players score at least ten points.

         The Terrapins hit 4-of-8 three pointers in the game, giving them a percentage of .500, one of their highest on the year. Tonight was the fourth time this year they have shot over 50 percent from outside the arc.

         Maryland outrebounded the Eagles 38-27. The Terps have held the rebounding advantage in all but three games this season.

         The Terrapins held the Eagles to just 38.7 percent from the field. Coming into Thursday’s game, BC led the ACC in field goal percentage with a clip of .453.

         The Terp defensive unit held BC center Carolyn Swords to just six points in the matchup. Prior to Thursday’s game, Swords led the conference in field goal percentage (.662) and was No. 7 in scoring with an average of 15.5 points per game. They also held Swords to just seven rebounds in the game. She is also the ACC’s leader in rebounds with an average of 10.9 per game.

 

 

Individual Game Notes

         Freshman forward Tianna Hawkins notched her third career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the matchup. She was 5-for-7 from the field and 2-for-2 from the foul line. She also notched two blocks and a steal. This was her second straight game with double-digit rebounds.

         Freshman forward Diandra Tchatchouang scored in double figures for the 14th time this year with her game-leading 18 points. She made 9-of-16 shots, grabbed eight boards, dished four assists and notched a block and a steal.

         Sophomore Lynetta Kizer posted 12 points in the win, her second straight game with double-digit points. She was 6-for-12 from the field and grabbed four rebounds, as well as a block and a steal.

         Senior Lori Bjork scored 15 points in the win with her four three’s and 5-for-7 shooting from the field. Tonight was her sixth straight game and 11th on the year, with multiple three’s made in a game.  She was 4-for-6 from outside the arc and grabbed two rebounds as well.

         Freshman guard Dara Taylor dished out eight assists in the game, her sixth straight game with six or more assists. She also grabbed seven rebounds and scored six points in the win.
