Team Records and Series Notes
• Maryland improves to 15-6 and 3-4 in the conference, while Virginia Tech falls to 12-8 overall and 2-4 in the ACC.
• Maryland leads the all-time series, 7-5, and has won the last five games against the Hokies. The Terps own a 7-2 record in Cassell Coliseum.
• The Terps broke their three-game losing streak with their win over Virginia Tech. Maryland hadn’t lost three consecutive games since 2004 when they dropped games to Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Duke.
• Head coach Brenda Frese is closing in on her 200th career win. After Thursday's game, she currently stands at 191-66 (.743).
• Maryland will take a break in conference action Sunday, Jan. 31 as they head to Farmville, Va., to take on Longwood at 2 p.m. ET.
Team Game Notes
• Line-up: Dara Taylor, Lynetta Kizer, Kim Rodgers, Lori Bjork, Diandra Tchatchouang. This lineup is 2-2.
• Key run: After the Hokies closed in to cut the Terps lead to three at 29-26, sophomore center Lynetta Kizer made a layup and got the foul with 16:56 left in the game to put the Terrapins up 31-26. After missing the free throw, she grabbed the offensive rebounds to make another layup two seconds later. After a Lori Bjork layup, Kizer grabbed a steal and scored again to jumpstart a 9-0 run to put the Terps up by 14 at 40-26.
• Maryland outrebounded Virginia Tech, 49-35. The Terps are 15-3 when the hold the rebounding advantage.
• The Terrapins hit seven treys in Thursday’s game, their second-highest total of the season. They last time they hit seven in a game was against Miami on Jan. 21.
• The Terps held the Hokies to their third lowest shooting percentage of the year. They shot 29.3 percent from the field for the game. They shot just 8 percent from outside the arc.
Individual Game Notes
• Senior Lori Bjork, the ACC's three-point leader, led the Terps with 22 points tonight on her 4-for-7 shooting from outside the arc. She was 8-for-11 from the field overall, and was 2-for-2 from the charity stripe. This was her tenth straight game with multiple three's in a game and ninth on the year with four or more.
• Sophomore center Lynetta Kizer registered her 15th career double-double and sixth on the year. She grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds and 18 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the field and also hit her third career three-pointer. She also notched four steals in the game.
• Freshman guard Jackie Nared grabbed eight rebounds in her 19 minutes on the floor, as well as hit a three and notched an assist. She was 2-for-5 from the field.
• Freshman guard Dara Taylor dished nine assists on the night, as well as scored two points, grabbed two rebounds and had two steals.
