COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland thrived from downtown against Iona College hitting a season-high 13 baskets from beyond the arc. The Terrapins rallied behind sophomore Kim Rodgers who hit her stride in the second half and went 5-for-6 from the three-point line. The Terps now advance to the Women's National Invitational Tournament Second Round after defeating the Gaels, 88-53.

The next game for Maryland is on Sunday, March 21 against East Carolina with the time to be determined.

Tickets for Sunday's game are on sale now at the Maryland ticket office. Fans can purchase tickets online at www.umterps.com or by phone at 1-800-IM-A-TERP. General Admission seats are only $10 for adults and $8 for children, while reserved seats are just $12.

The win gave the team their 20th win of the season and head coach Brenda Frese her 10th career 20-plus win season and her sixth consecutive at Maryland. Frese is just four wins shy of her 200th as a Terrapin (196-72, .731)

Rodgers' immaculate performance from the field helped give Maryland a 15-5 run to break open the second half. The Terps mirrored their first half point production for their 18th half scoring 40 or more points with 44. They are now 11-1 when doing so.

The Virginia Beach, Va., native finished with five three's and tied her career-high in three-pointers made. She first accomplished the feat against Longwood in January.

The second half of the game was dominated by the Terrapins as they led in points in the paint (22), second chance points (11), fast break points (7) and bench points (17). Maryland also outrebounded the Gaels 30-18 in the final minutes. Freshman Tianna Hawkins used 11 points in the final 20 minutes to fuel her seventh career double-double (15 pts/10rbs).

In the first half the two teams tangoed up and down the court. It was the third of three attempted shots from behind the arc from freshman Jackie Nared that gave the Terps the lead for the rest of the game. Following Nared's shot, Maryland shot 80 percent from the field (8-for-10) in the last six minutes propelling a 20-4 run which secured the 16-point halftime lead.

Five Terrapins handed in double-figure point performances tonight. Led by Hawkins' and Rodgers' 15, senior Lori Bjork added 12 going 4-for-7 from the field. Nared contributed 11 on four field goals, three of which were three-pointers. Sophomore Anjale Barrett posted 10 and dished out five assists.

The Terrapins continue their 24th post season appearance with a second round game against East Carolina on Sunday, March 21 (time TBA). Maryland and the Pirates have never met on the court before. The Terps are 5-0 this season against opponents they met for the first time this season.
