Maryland vs. East Carolina

WNIT Second Round
College Park, Md. (Comcast Center)
FINAL SCORE: Maryland 87, East Carolina 52
Head Coach Brenda Frese
Opening Statement:
“We’re excited to be one of the sixteen teams to advance to the sweet sixteen. Today, again was another dominating performance, we’re just really clicking. We challenged us defensively at halftime to hold them to under thirty-one points and we did that…it’s a very athletic team in East Carolina so I’m just proud of the way we’re coming together and really clicking.”
“I think we have a lot of players shooting the ball with confidence. Obviously when you see the consistency that Kim and Jackie are putting up those kind of numbers, now it’s making it easier for our bigs inside because we’re opening up the court and I think our guard play and our post play…we’re getting a lot more comfortable with our feel with each other on the court.”
On the play of Kim Rogers:
“It’s great to be able to see Kim play with the kind of confidence and her mindset has been so good this week and I think that it’s a direct reflection in terms of how she’s prepared herself in practice this week. Again it gives us so much more depth. They’re always keying in on Lori and now you have to figure out who to key in on when you have so many perimeter players. We know Kim can play like that, she’s a tremendous player and we’re just happy to see it.”
Lynetta Kizer
“I think in the first half I was trying to force it and I got a little frustrated but my coaches and my teammates just told me to calm down and let the game come to me, so I just went out and played.”
Kim Rodgers
“Whenever my teammates find me I just try to hit the shot. That’s my job, to hit open shots and I think we’re doing a pretty good job so far.”
Lori Bjork
On the team’s feeling that they should be included in the NCAA tournament and their motivation to advance in the WNIT:
“I think that’s definitely part of the mindset. We talked about it as a team, the easy way out at this point is to just throw in the towel and tank and I don’t think a lot of people would blame you if you did, but I think this team is showing the type of winners we are. We want to show that we are champions and we’re going to come out and compete every night and we’re not going to let up.”
