Maryland head coach Brenda Frese

Opening Statement:
"Obviously, you know, just extremely proud for our team, excited for them. This work started in our offseason. This is why these girls are so much fun to coach. When you talk about how hungry they stayed in the offseason, to prepare themselves for this season. Obviously, a terrific team win, the balance that we had, the defense we displayed. Obviously, Sugar showed that she was human tonight, and obviously we played a very talented team. I think that for Georgetown's quest they're now the seeing the flip side of it, in terms of playing with expectations and how you have to play with a target on your back."

On the defense against Sugar Rodgers:
"I thought the defense that Lauren and Kim and the rotations we had defensively, I thought they were tremendous. They obviously made her have to work for every shot that she took and they did a tremendous job tonight."

On getting revenge against Georgetown:
"The big thing for us is this is a new season. It's a new team. They're creating their identity. With every game and every game and every practice that we get to play we get to create their identity. We want to build on this. Obviously, there is a lot of pride in this locker room in terms of taking things to heart. This is a new season and we want to build on this season to see how far we can go this season."

On getting back to an elite level:
"You know, like I told them in the locker room, it's the second game of the season. Obviously, the display we showed tonight, there are special things ahead for this team, as long as we stay humble and hungry in our pursuit. I've seen teams go in different directions. They're so grounded. We challenged them at halftime and they did a tremendous job executing the game plan. As long as we stay humble and hungry good things are going to happen for this team."

Sophomore Forward Alyssa Thomas

On getting revenge against Georgetown:
"Like coach said, it's a new season. I know that loss last year definitely motivated us to want to work harder and not let that happen again. So today we just wanted to protect our house."

On Georgetown's trash talk:
"Of course they were talking, but we let our actions speak on the court for us today. They can do what they do and we'll do what we do."

Junior Forward Tianna Hawkins

On whether there is a rivalry with Georgetown:
"I think it is. With both schools being in the DMV area, there is always which team is better, who's going to beat who and I think it is really a rivalry."

On bragging rights over Georgetown:
"I wouldn't say bragging rights. I would just say, we won tonight."

Georgetown Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy

On Maryland's play:
"I think Maryland did a great job of setting up their press offense. Obviously we have played two games before, had turned them over. If I'm the opposing coach, if I'm Brenda [Frese], the only thing I'm working on is my press offense to not turn the ball over, and that's exactly what they did."

On Sugar Rodger's play:
"I think she's one of the best players in the country. I think [Maryland's defense] did an OK job on Sugar. I think Sugar just had an off night. Sugar still got off 12 shots. Sugar missed free throws; Sugar Rodgers never misses free throws. Sugar had an off night. She's human. She will have an off night."

On needed improvements:
"I don't know if it's so much we have to improve on, I think it's some of the things we did tonight are some of our Achilles heels that have been for many seasons. Rebounding, Maryland did a great job. Post defense, we're very small. Those are just some things that are out of our control. We can only do what we do well. We press well; Maryland handled that well. Sugar won't have these types of nights. It just won't happen. A lot of the things that happened won't continue to happen."

Junior guard Sugar Rodgers

On her play:
"I just had a bad shooting night, like Coach said. [Laurin Mincy's defense] was OK, but I know I can shoot. I just had a bad shooting night.

Senior forward Tia Magee

On the loss:
"[I told my teammates] just to keep their heads up. I mean, it's the second game of the season. Nobody wants to lose that way, but we have a lot of growing and a lot of maturing to do. And I just want my teammates to know that we need to stick together. We're going to get better, we're going to grow, and we're going to learn from this. It was a tough loss, we made a lot of mistakes, but we have a very long season ahead of us, and we're going to be OK. I just wanted them to know that. But we've got to get in the gym, we've got to work, we've got to perfect things, we've got to get better."

Senior guard Rubylee Wright

On the loss:
"I don't think of [the loss] as a setback. We're moving forward from this loss. Like Tia said, we're going to learn, we're going to get better, we're going to get in the gym. We're just going to work hard and keep each other up.
