Head Coach Brenda Frese

Opening Statement:
"[I'm] disappointed, I thought it was a very lethargic game. Virginia Tech did a nice job of coming in here with a lot of energy but I am going to focus on the positives and I thought both Alyssa [Thomas] and Lauren [Mincy] did some tremendous things. They gave us great energy in terms of how they competed in this game. [It's] great to be able to see Laurin shoot the ball with confidence and step up and really make the defense have to play her. I thought both of them did tremendous jobs of leading this team just as freshmen."

On being outrebounded by the conference's worst rebounding team:
"That's something we take pride in, our rebounding. But I thought Virginia Tech did just a great job going to the offensive glass. They were scrappy and very aggressive. I thought we got kind of complacent defensively in the zone off the rebounding. Just trying to find the right combinations in terms of rebounding the basketball was key."

On overlooing the last-place Hokies:
"I think with a young team, we're still trying to figure out playing this game and playing against competition. When you're still trying to develop leaders within your youth, you want to be able to understand how important and valuable every game is."

On the play of Alyssa Thomas:
"She's in great shape, given the fact that she doesn't even really look tired. She was just making a lot of things happen offensively, on the glass and overall did a tremendous job."

Freshman Forward Alyssa Thomas

On tonight's game:
"I just wanted to come out and play hard. I didn't want to take Virginia Tech lightly and get another loss like Virginia so I just came out and played hard."

Freshman Guard Laurin Mincy

On her shooting tonight:
"I really think it was my best shooting game of the season. My coaches and teammates kept telling me just keep beign shot ready and [the shots] were falling for me."

Virginia Tech Head Coach Beth Dunkenberger

Opening Statement:
"I thought we had a good game plan on how to beat Maryland. I thought we executed it as good as we could from the defensive end and outrebounded the No. 2 rebounding team in the nation...This speaks mounds to how much attention and how much respect we have for Maryland. They did a good job, especially once Laurin [Mincy] came off the bench. She was in the zone and did a heck of a job."

On tonight's game plan:
"They saw our game plan. We packed it int he zone and tried to keep the ball out of the paint as much as we could. They are a very big team, a very good one-on-one team and a very offensive-rebounded team. The more people you have int he paint, the better because that's where a bucket of their points come from."

On tonight's one-on-ones:
"I think it's having people around the basket. You can't play one-on-one with such a great, athletic rebounding team. With eight or 10 All-Americans, they're big, strong and good at what they do. We can't let them go one-on-one on the boards."
