COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Laurin Mincy scored 24 points, Tianna Hawkins had 15 points and 14 rebounds, and second-seeded Maryland beat seventh-seeded Louisville 72-68 Monday night to reach the program's 13th Sweet Sixteen.
The Terrapins trailed 64-59 with 6 minutes left before closing with a 13-4 run and limiting Louisville to only one field goal.
Maryland (30-4) will face defending champion Texas A&M at noon Sunday in Raleigh, N.C.
Shoni Schimmel scored 22 and Shawnta' Dyer had 17 for the Cardinals (23-10). Louisville had a chance to tie in the closing seconds before Mincy blocked a shot by Becky Burke. Burke, who came in averaging 11.7 points, finished with five.
Hawkins scored 13 of her 15 in the second half and grabbed a career-high six steals. Lynetta Kizer scored five of her seven down the stretch as well. Mincy went 10-for-13 from the free throw line and added seven rebounds.
The Terps won the battle on the glass, 41-35. Both teams committed 16 turnovers, but Maryland scored 22 points off the Cardinals' giveaways to Louisville's 13.
Head coach Brenda Frese and the Terps have won their last nine straight games and 12 of their last 13 heading into Sunday's game.
The Terrapins are 30-18 (.625) all-time in NCAA Tournament games. Frese owns an NCAA Tournament record of 19-7 (.731) and 18-6 (.750) at Maryland. Frese has led the Terps to four Sweet Sixteens, three Elite Eights and the 2006 national championship.
