#2 Maryland Returns to B1G Play at Michigan

• The No. 2 Maryland women’s lacrosse team will return to conference play on Saturday with a trip to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan. The game can be seen on the Big Ten Network, with Dean Linke and Sheehan Stanwick Burch on the call.
• Maryland heads into this weekend’s contest with a 9-1 record and No. 2 ranking. Last week, the Terps defeated two top-ten opponents, with a 13-7 win at No. 8 Penn and a 15-12 win over No. 4 James Madison in front of a record 2,531 fans at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex before beating Georgetown, 17-5 this past Wednesday.
• Megan Whittle (38 goals, 11 assists) leads the team with 49 points, while Jen Giles (26 goals, 14 assists) stands right behind her with 40. Whittle leads the Big Ten in many offensive categories, including goals per game (3.80), points per game (4.90) and free position percentage (79.3%) and leads the country in free position goals per game with 2.30, after scoring a career-best six against UMBC. Giles is second in the conference in points per game (4.00) and shot percentage (56.5%) and ranking fourth in free position percentage (64.3%).

• Eight Terrapins scored goals as the No. 2 Maryland women’s lacrosse team overtook Georgetown, 17-5, Wednesday evening at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex.
• Kali Hartshorn and Caroline Steele led the way for Maryland offensively with four goals and one assist apiece. Grace Griffin was right behind them with her second-straight game with a hat-trick. Megan Whittle had two goals, while Jen Giles, Taylor Hensh, Meghan Siverson and Maggie Root all tallied one goal.

• The two programs met last season in College Park with the then-No. 1 Terps defeating Michigan, 20-7. Megan Whittle, Jen Giles, Kali Hartshorn and Brindi Griffin all had three goals.
WHITTLE climbing up the all-time goal ranks
• In just 10 games this season, Megan Whittle has jumped from six to two in the Maryland women's lacrosse all-time goal ranks, tallying 38 goals. Whittle struck her 250th career goal in the Terps last game against No. 4 James Madison.
• The senior attacker now has 252 goals in her career, passing Maryland greats Taylor Cummings and Karri Ellen Johnson on her path to the all-time lead this season. Whittle is just 16 goals behind Jen Adams (1998-01) for the all-time lead at 267.
STEELE CITY
• Junior attacker Caroline Steele has been on a tear over the past five games, leading the Terps with 19 goals and 23 points.
• Against the Orange, Steele tallied a career-best seven points with five goals and two assists. Steele then followed that up, with a four goal, one assist game against Hopkins the following week. Steele notched her third and fourth consecutive games with a hat-trick against No. 8 Penn and No. 4 James Madison. Against Georgetown, Steele led the way with four goals and one assist.
• The junior now stands second on the team in goals (30) and third in points (38) and fourth in assists (eight).
CONTROLLING THE DRAW
• As a team, Maryland stands third in the the nation and leads the Big Ten in draw controls per game, with 17.30, with Kali Hartshorn and Meghan Siverson leading the charge.
• Against UNC (2/24), Hartshorn posted a career-best 12 draw controls. Siverson then had a career-high of her own, 13 draw controls against UMBC (2/28). Last game against Georgetown, the Terps won the draw control battle 17-7, with Hartshorn tallying 10.
• Maryland has 173 as a team through nine games, with Siverson and Hartshorn combining for 98 of those (56.6%).
MAGNIFICENT MEGAN
• Over the past four games, Megan Taylor has been a force in the cage. The junior has 33 saves, with only 29 allowed, a .532 save percentage and only 7.49 goals allowed per game. In a 13-7 win over No. 8 Penn, Taylor tied her season-high with 13 saves and recorded her highest save percentage of the season at .650.
A GLANCE AT GRACE
• As the only freshman starter on the team, Grace Griffin has taken off over the past few games. In the past two wins, Griffin leads the team in points (10), notching seven goals and three assists. In the win over No. 4 James Madison, Griffin led the team with four goals and one assist.
• For her efforts against the Dukes, Griffin was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

• This season, Maryland has received a lot of recognition, both on the conference and national level.
• The Terps have won seven Big Ten honors this season, with Megan Whittle winning Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week three times, Lizzie Colson winning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week three times and Megan Taylor and Grace Griffin each earning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and Big Ten Freshman of the Week recognition once.
• On the national level, five Terps were named to the initial Tewaaraton Watch List on March 1st. Senior attacker Megan Whittle and a quartet of juniors: defender Julia Braig, midfielder Jen Giles, attacker Caroline Steele and goalie Megan Taylor were all selected for the watch list.
• Lastly, this past week Megan Whittle was named the IWLCA National Player of the Week after finishing last week with 10 points, seven goals and three assists, notching four goals against No. 8 Penn and three against No. 4 JMU.
