Barry & Mary Gossett Fellows Program

As a Barry & Mary Gossett Fellow, student-athletes will become more self-aware and develop skills to become change agents in their local and global communities. Through the following curriculum, topics are based on the NACE (National Association of Colleges and Employers) standards: Career & Self-Development, Communication, Critical Thinking, Leadership, Professionalism, and more.

Student-athletes who complete the Gossett Fellow program will receive a $1,500 honorarium to assist with implementing their professional development money towards their postgraduate career plans. We hope our Gossett Fellow alums commit to serving as active members of the M Club, including but not limited to participating in mentorship and sponsorship programs.

InTERPship Academy

Founded in Summer 2015, the InTERPship Academy is an 8-week paid internship program.Student-athletes work between 15-20 hours per week at an employer host site that provides mentorship, training, and exposure to their desired career industry. As an intern, students will also participate in weekly professional development sessions, complete weekly journal reflections, and present a capstone project as assigned by the program administrator. Host employers can be at the University of Maryland, though we encourage student-athletes to gain experience at off-campus sites in the local and global community.

Career Exposure Tour

The Career Exposure Tour is an all-expense paid opportunity for student-athletes to step outside their comfort zones to engage, network and connect with industry professionals, in a variety of industries. This tour allows students to travel outside of College Park to explore what life after college could be, engaging in a multitude of site visits, alumni networking & engagement opportunities, and community service initiatives.

Cities We’ve Visited: In 2024, the Maryland Made team took twenty-three student-athletes from ten different sports to Charlotte, NC. Site visits included Bank of America Stadium (Carolina Panthers/ Charlotte FC), Visit Charlotte, Hopeway featuring the Project Life Movement and Mission 34, NJCAA, NASCAR, and the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Students were also able to give back to the community by volunteering at Camp Holiday, a summer camp run by the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Charlotte. The impact of this tour was unforgettable as student-athletes from different sports built a community and shared experiences to bring back to their respective teams, alongside our UMD Alumni Association.
