Dan Enos begins his second season in College Park in 2022. Enos has over 30 years of coaching experience, including five as a head coach at Central Michigan from 2010-14.
Enos' offense set numerous school records during his first season at Maryland. The Terps set single-season program marks for total yards (5,740), passing yards (3,960), completions (339) and completion percentage (69.3%) in 2021.
Also serving as Maryland's quarterbacks coach, Enos helped develop Taulia Tagovailoa into one of the best quarterbacks in the Big Ten. Tagovailoa set seven single-season Maryland records in 2021, including program best marks for passing yards (3,860), completions (328), completion percentage (69.2) and passing touchdowns (26 – ties school record).
The Terrapins offense capped off the 2021 season by scoring 54 points in a 54-10 win over Virginia Tech in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. The 54 points in the game marked the most ever for a Terrapin team in a bowl game and it was the most points ever scored by any team in Pinstripe Bowl history.
Prior to Maryland, Enos served as the Associate Head Coach / Running Backs Coach for Cincinnati, helping lead the Bearcats to one of the best seasons in program history, which featured a 9-1 record, American Athletic Conference Championship, Top-10 ranking and Sugar Bowl berth.
Cincinnati ranked top-25 nationally in nearly every offensive category in 2020 under Enos, averaging 37.5 points per game and 212.4 rushing yards per game.
Enos spent the 2019 season at Miami (FL), serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He also has coaching stints at Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan State, North Dakota State, Western Michigan, Missouri State, Southern Illinois, Northern Michigan and Lakeland College.
In 2018, Enos coached with Maryland Head Coach Michael Locksley at Alabama, serving as the Associate Head Coach / Quarterbacks Coach. The duo helped lead the Crimson Tide to 14 wins, the SEC Championship, a College Football Playoff Berth and an Orange Bowl win.
Tua Tagovailoa, brother of current Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, posted one of the best seasons by a quarterback in college football history during that 2018 season. Tagovailoa completed 69 percent of his passes, throwing for 3,966 yards with 43 TDs and just six interceptions, setting an all-time FBS single-season passer rating mark (199.44). The Tide averaged 45.6 points and 522.0 yards per game and set school records for points scored (684), single-season total offense (7,830 yards) and passing yards (4,854) in a season.
Enos’ first stint in the SEC was as the offensive coordinator for Arkansas, where he was the Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Coach from 2015-17 and saw his offense produce some of the most impressive seasons in Razorbacks history. Arkansas was one of two FBS programs with a 3,000-yard passer and 1,300-yard rusher in both 2015 and 2016, featuring a different quarterback and different running back carrying the load in each season.
Enos had five offensive players selected in the 2016 NFL Draft, tied for the second-most nationally.
Prior to his time at Arkansas, Enos spent five seasons as the head coach at Central Michigan (2010-14), leading the Chippewas to two bowl games and bowl eligibility in three of his five seasons at the helm. He coached 23 All-Mid-American Conference players while his offenses passed for more than 3,000 yards four times. Central Michigan’s win over Western Kentucky in the 2012 Little Caesars Pizza Bowl was just the third bowl win in program history.
In each of his final two seasons at CMU, Enos helped the Chippewas rank in the top half of the MAC in passing efficiency, third down conversion percentage and time of possession.
Enos has Big Ten roots, coaching at his alma mater Michigan State from 2006-09 where he tutored three NFL running backs in Javon Ringer, Edwin Baker and Jehuu Caulcrick and was named one of Rivals.com’s Top 25 recruiters nationally in 2009.
As a standout quarterback at Michigan State from 1987-90, Enos started two seasons and earned a 16-7-1 record (.688) as a starter, leading the Spartans to two bowl victories. He still ranks among the best in school history with 3,837 passing yards and 297 completions. His .621 completion percentage ranks fourth-best in Spartan history.
Enos graduated from Michigan State with a degree in business administration in 1991 and earned his master’s in sports administration in 2006.
