Devon Frieson was promoted to Associate Director of the Barry and Mary Gossett Center for Academic and Personal Excellence in September 2022. Overall, he enters his 10th school year with Maryland ahead of 2026-27.
Frieson joined the Maryland athletics department as an academic counselor for the football program in fall 2017. He later became the assistant director of the Gossett Student-Athlete Center in January 2022 and added field hockey academic counceling to his duties. He played a key role in Maryland football being awarded the 2025 AFCA Academic Achievement Award, marking the program's first-ever win.
Previously, Frieson served as an academic coordinator at Georgia Southern University, where he worked with men's basketball and track and field. He's a member of N4A (National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals).
A native of Jacksonville Fla., Frieson played football for the University of Akron from 2009-13. He graduated in 2013 with an undergraduate degree in sports management and a graduate degree in 2015 in sport administration.
He is the son of Rosemary and Warren Frieson. Devon and his wife, Chasity, have a son names Jaxon, who was born in 2021 and a daughter, Ivey Rose, who was born in 2026. They reside in Anne Arundel County.
