The Breakdown: Emerged as one of the top outside backs in the nation in 2019, with the ability to attack down the flank and defend expertly in the defensive third. The Washington D.C., native also has the versatility to play as an attacking left sided player if needed. Di Rosa's top moment as a Terp came at the 2018 College Cup, when he scored the winning goal in the semifinal against Indiana.
As a Senior (2020-21): Trained with the Terps in the fall of 2020 after season was postponed to the spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic...departed the program in Feb. 2021 after being selected in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft...Academic All-Big Ten selection.
As a Junior (2019): Stared all 21 matches at the Terps' left back...played 1,917 minutes...notched two assists...a 2019 CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-American, the first for the program since 2007...2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District selection...an Academic All-Big Ten selection...earned the Maryland ICA Academic Achievement Award...notched the assist on the game winning goal against St. John's (9/23)...notched an assist against Iona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament (11/21)...helped the Terps notched clean sheets against USF (8/30), Akron (9/13), Villanova (9/16), St. John's (9/23), Wisconsin (9/27), Cal State Fullerton (10/5), Indiana (10/18), Yale (10/21), Ohio State (10/25), Northwestern (11/10), Iona (11/21)
As a Sophomore (2018): Played 20 matches and made 12 starts in Maryland's National Championship season...scored a goal and added an assist mainly playing left back and left wing...played 1,342 minutes...notched 11 shots...an Academic All-Big Ten selection...won the NCAA Elite 90 Award, given to the student-athlete with the best GPA at the Final Four...made his season debut against Stanford (8/31)...made seven consecutive starts against West Virginia (9/10), at Northwestern (9/14), vs. Wisconsin (9/21), at Rutgers (9/26), at Coastal Carolina (9/30), vs. Michigan State (10/5) and at Georgetown (10/8)...scored the opening goal in Maryland's 2-0 win against Indiana in the College Cup semifinals (12/7)...played 48 minutes and drew a penalty kick in the Terps 1-0 win over Akron in the College Cup final (12/9).
As a Freshman (2017): Appeared in five matches and made three starts...made his Maryland debut with 21 minutes against Northwestern (9/29)...notched a career-high 77 minutes against Coastal Carolina in his first career start (10/20)...started and played 57 minutes against VCU (10/24)...played in a start against Michigan (10/29).
Before Maryland: Four-year starter for Bethesda Academy…helped lead team to playoffs his freshman and sophomore years…participant in U.S. Soccer regional training centers...ranked No. 130 by College Soccer News and No. 148 by Top Drawer Soccer.
Personal: Matt Di Rosa was born August 10, 1998… son of Paolo and Anne Di Rosa… twin brother, Ben, is also joining Maryland in the fall… before every game Matt listens to music and watches highlights… biggest sports thrill is winning games… if he could play any other sport at Maryland it would be basketball.
