Taylor Smyth was named Associate Director of Communications in May of 2020 after previously serving as Assistant Director of Media Relations since 2016.
In his role, Smyth oversees Maryland's department social media strategy and execution. He coordinates all publicity for Maryland's National Championship winning men's soccer program, while providing oversight to Maryland's student assistants handling publicity for gymnastics and women's tennis.
Smyth is the co-founder and co-host of Maryland's official podcast "Hear The Turtle", which debuted in the Summer of 2017. He also serves as a digital content personality in various capacities.
Smyth handled publicity for Maryland's baseball program for five seasons. He also previously worked with the Terps' women's soccer, women's tennis, wrestling and track and field programs.
In January of 2020, Smyth was named an honoree of the University of Maryland Terrapin Club's "
30 Under 30" program, which recognizes Maryland young alumni for their professional lives and embodiment of Maryland pride.
Smyth graduated from the University of Maryland in 2014 with a degree in history and was student assistant in the media relations office for three years. He also handles social media efforts for The Pandas LLC and is a two-time winner of the Captain's Cup.
