Alonzo Ruffin joined the Maryland track and field staff prior to the 2017-18 season as a volunteer assistant. Ruffin has spent decades involved in the sport as an athlete and coach, most recently serving as the head track and field coach at local St. John’s College High School in Washington D.C. Ruffin also held the title of head track and field coach at the University of New Orleans from 1990-1999.   

Ruffin has previously worked as a speed consultant for the Baltimore Ravens, Army Football and U.S. Gymnastics, in addition to dozens of other teams and athletes. Ruffin has trained several professional athletes throughout his career, including Ray Lewis, Brandon Stokley and DeMarcus Cousins.

Ruffin is the owner and director of Accelerate Your Game speed and agility clinic and the head coach of Team Accelerate Track Club in Columbia, Md.
