Amina Smith (’14) will rejoin her alma mater to assist with the technical aspects of the jumps, while working towards her own Olympic goals. Smith knows what it takes to compete as a top level Maryland student-athlete. During her collegiate years, she was an ACC champion in the high jump and an NCAA Indoor and Outdoor All-Americanin this event.
Since graduation, Smith has spent the past years enhancing her skills and garnering new personal best achievements. Her current personal best in the high jump meets the Olympic Trials standard (1.92m- 6’3 ½”). She was a finalist in six USATF Championship events and earned her highest place finish at the 2020 USATF Indoor Championships with a silver medal. At the 2016 Olympic Trials, Smith placed 4thin the high jump. She is currently ranked Top 30 in the world via World Athletics and has her eyes set on the upcoming Olympic Games.
Smith graduated with a B.A. in Sociology and a concentration in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland. She is a high school graduate of Patuxent high school in her hometown of Lusby, MD.
