Travis Coleman

Head coach Andrew Valmon of the Maryland Track & Field program introduced Travis Coleman as the program’s throws coach in the fall of 2017. Coleman came to Maryland after serving as an assistant at Marshall University in Huntington, W.V.

Since Coleman’s arrival Terrapin throwers have rewritten the record books 11 times on the way to seven NCAA first round appearances, four All Americans, an NCAA runner up, and Maryland’s first men’s B1G Ten Champion since joining the conference.

During his three seasons with the Marshall Thundering Herd, Coleman rebuilt the throws program, producing two NCAA first round qualifiers, three All-Conference USA performers, and setting eight new school records in the throwing events.

Before his time at Marshall, Coleman served two years as an assistant at Georgia State University in Atlanta. Coleman's time at Georgia State produced a USATF Junior National Qualifier, NCAA First Round Qualifier, and saw 13 school records fall, on the way to a runner up finish at the SunBelt Conference Championship.

Coleman is a graduate of Winthrop University where he threw for the Eagles before joining the staff as a graduate assistant coach. During his time at Winthrop, Coleman accumulated two NCAA First Round appearances, seven All Big South Conference awards, and a Conference Championship in the shot put.
