Head coach Brenda Frese of the Maryland women's basketball team promoted Maryland alumna and former manager Ryland Adkins to Executive Director of Operations/Chief of Staff in the summer of 2025. Adkins returned to her alma mater as Director of Basketball Operations in June of 2021. She enters her fifth season back at Maryland in 2025-26.

For four years, Adkins oversaw the Terrapins’ day-to-day operations of travel, budgeting, scheduling and equipment. Adkins has been one of the program’s points of contact for the development of the Barry P. Gossett Basketball Performance Center, slated to open in fall 2025.

Adkins spent the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations at Richmond. She handled all travel, equipment, scheduling, and helped with the Spiders' improvement in 2019-20 and saw the Spiders earn a postseason win in the Atlantic 10 Championship first round.

"We are excited to promote Ryland within as she has done a terrific job managing all of the details within our program. This reorganization now allows Ryland to focus specifically on our student-athletes and staff," Frese said. "As a former alum and manager for us, Ryland was always someone we could count on. She has gained invaluable experience in her time away and I know she will be outstanding for us with the passion she has for Maryland and our program. Our student-athletes will be well-served by her. She will be a tremendous addition to our team and family."

“I’m incredibly excited and honored to step into the role of Executive Director of Operations/Chief of Staff,” Adkins said. “This new opportunity means so much to me. This big step in my journey gives me the chance to keep supporting our student athletes and my UMD family.  The heart, hustle, and dedication we share on and off the court continues to excite me. I’m grateful for the trust and look forward to a great future! Go Terps!”

Adkins also worked as the Director of Basketball Operations at Bucknell and Furman after her five seasons working for the Terrapins' program. While at Maryland, Adkins worked as a student manager and then as an intern for former Director of Operations Libby Ellis following her graduation. During that time, the Terrapins won an ACC title, a Big Ten regular season title, a Big Ten Tournament title, and appeared in the NCAA Final Four twice. Adkins earned a bachelor's degree in family science from Maryland in 2016.
