Ruth Seaborne

Ruth Seaborne was promoted to Associate Head Coach in July 2023. She will enter her fourth season with the Terps in 2025 after joining the staff in July 2021. Seaborne came to Maryland after serving as the assistant coach and interim head coach at the University of Arkansas from 2019-2021.

Seaborne played a pivotal role in the Terrapins strong 2024 season that saw the team finish with a 16-10 record overall and 6-5 in conference play. The Terps had a stellar 12-1 record at home, picking up five wins over top 75 ranked opponents, including the programs first win over a top 30 ranked opponent since 2013. Maryland finished in the top 50 of ITA's rankings for the first time since 2011 and improved to No. 2 in ITA's Atlantic Regional Rankings.

In 2023, Seaborne was a key part of the staff that lead the Tennis Terps to a 17-9 season record, tied for second most wins in program history, and a season high ITA ranking of 33. Seaborne also helped lead the doubles duo of Mary Brumfield and Selma Cadar to the ITA Atlantic Regional Finals and an Elite 8 appearance at the National Fall Championships,
gaining a win over No.4 ranked UCLA, Hance & Wagle.

During the 2022 season, Coach Seaborne helped Maryland to their most even wins in a single season, 18-7.

During Seaborne’s time at Arkansas, she coached the doubles duo of Rice and Alter to a career-high ITA ranking of No. 8 and an Elite 8 finish at the 2019 National Fall Championships. Seaborne recruited SEC Freshman of the Year, Indianna Spink, who competed at the No.1 singles position during her rookie year and earned a ITA Singles ranking of No. 33 and a berth in the 2021 NCAA singles championships. In addition, Seaborne coached the Razorbacks to an upset win over No. 10-ranked Vanderbilt, a season-high ITA ranking of No. 19 and berth in the 2021 NCAA tournament. Off the court, Seaborne placed high priority in community engagement and helped lead the team to achieve the 2020 ITA Community Service Award for the Central Region.

Prior to her time in Fayetteville, Coach Seaborne served as the
Assistant Coach at the University of Massachusetts. During
Seaborne’s time at UMass, The Minutewomen finished the 2018 season 13-7 and finished the Spring as the A-10 Conference tournament runners-up. During the 2019 season, the team finished 18-5, tied for the most wins for the program in a single season (last time was in 2001). Seaborne recruited fellow England-native Jodie Lawrence-Taylor, who was named the Atlantic 10’s Most Outstanding Rookie Performer. Off the court, Seaborne helped lead the team to achieve the 2019 ITA Community Service Award for the Northeast Region.

Prior to her time with UMass, Seaborne was the volunteer assistant at the University of Iowa from 2016-2017 and the assistant coach at Utah State from 2015-16.

As a collegiate player, Seaborne helped the Seminoles to the ACC conference finals for the first time in program history, and a program-high ITA team ranking of No. 9. She also helped the Noles reach the National Indoors and the NCAA Championships in 2011 and 2012. After transferring to the University of Iowa following her sophomore year, Seaborne was named First Team All-Big 10 in 2013 and 2014.

Seaborne competed in the All-American Championships in both singles and doubles and posted a ITA doubles ranking of No. 22. Seaborne was the British Junior National Singles champion in 2011 and the British Junior National Doubles Champion in 2010 and 2011.

Seaborne graduated from the University of Iowa with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in May 2015. She also earned a minor in sports studies.
