Josh Chambers (New)

Josh Chambers

Josh Chambers enters his 11th season alongside head coach Buzz Williams, and his first at Maryland, during the 2025-26 campaign. As the program’s Director of "Process," Chambers focuses on one thing: solving problems that stand between the team and its mission.

His role touches every corner of the program — from in-game strategy, player evaluation, roster construction and game scheduling, to mental performance curriculum and leadership development.

If it affects the culture, the players, or the staff, Chambers builds a plan to strengthen it.

At the core of his work is a simple idea: help the team adapt and evolve without losing the foundation that holds it together. Chambers writes lesson plans, leads cultural initiatives, designs content for team meetings and practices, and keeps leadership lessons alive in every environment the players and staff encounter.

He is also the creative mind behind the facility design, signage, and aesthetics, making sure every visual message on campus reflects Coach Williams’ values.

One of Chambers' signature projects is the design and delivery of the program’s "Quote Shirts" — a set of 12 custom shirts distributed annually within the team. Each shirt teaches a life lesson, extending the program’s impact far beyond basketball.

Chambers also oversees the design of recruiting materials and contributes to Coach Williams’ @TeamCoachBuzz social media platforms.

His path with Williams began at Virginia Tech in 2016, where he started as a graphic designer before quickly expanding his role to director of recruiting operations. His responsibilities grew to include recruit and transfer evaluation, logistics, and content creation.

Before Virginia Tech, Chambers served as vice president of strategic planning under Nike’s director of international basketball, Hall of Famer George Raveling. In that role, he worked with Nike, USA Basketball, the Los Angeles Clippers, the Basketball Hall of Fame, and top NCAA programs in a decision science role.

In 2015, Chambers founded his own collegiate recruiting company, Won’t Lose Designs, helping more than 10 Division I programs and several NBA players with branding and recruiting strategies.

A native of Lorton, Virginia, Chambers earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Virginia Tech in 2014. As a student manager for the Hokies, he donated his athletic scholarship to the ALS Association in honor of his late father, Col. Jay Chambers, who passed from Lou Gehrig’s disease in 2010. His efforts have raised over $10,000 for ALS awareness and research.

Chambers and his wife, Sammi, married in June 2022. Their son, Joshua Daniel Chambers, Jr. ("JJ"), was born in June 2024. Their family also includes their mini cockapoo, Lulu. Before moving to Maryland, Sammi served as the head girls basketball coach at Allen Academy in Bryan, Texas.
