STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Senior midfielder Lindsay Basalyga scored both Maryland goals and posted the Terrapins' women's soccer team to a 2-1 lead late in the second half, but two late Penn State goals spoiled the Terps' bid to advance in the NCAA Tournament. No. 6-ranked Penn State scored back-to-back goals within a minute-and-a-half span to overcome its deficit and down Maryland 3-2.
Scoreless at the intermission, Maryland scored first as Basalyga put the Terps ahead 1-0. After the Nittany Lions knotted the score, Basalyga found the back of the net for a 2-1 lead at 74:38.
Within the next two minutes, however, Penn State struck twice, scoring the game-winning goal at the 76:25 mark to mark the end of the Terps' season.
Maryland finished its 1999 season 11-10-1.
