Coach Williams Comments On His Team's Second Preseason NIT Win

Nov. 19, 1999

MARYLAND HEAD COACH GARY WILLIAMS:

On Maryland's win:

"We had a lot of chances to score, but we didn't convert, particularly in the second half. I liked the way we picked up our defense. I think our defense won the game for us down the stretch."

On Juan Dixon:

"Of course Juan Dixon is a good competitor. I've been saying that all along. He did it again tonight. He wanted the ball in that situation and it was great to see."

"You know it's never going to be dull this year. It'll be an interesting year and we're going to get better, but I think we're a pretty good team right now to get to the semifinals of the NIT. We will start getting ready though for [Fairleigh Dickinson] for our Monday night game. We're not the type of team right now that can look past anybody."

On Drew Nicholas:

"Once again, I like the way Drew Nicholas played. He has no fear out there. He'll miss a shot, but then in a key situation, take the next open shot and not many freshman do that."

About the Terps' comeback:

"You get down 17 in the first half ... you start to worry, then we did a great job coming back - it's really a positive thing, but you can't get 17 down - it's as simple as that."
