Maryland-Winthrop Post Game Coaches Quotes

Recap| Box Score| Notes

MARYLAND HEAD COACH GARY WILLIAMS:

"Looking at where this game fell in the schedule, I thought it would be a tough game because of their experience last year getting to the NCAA Tournament and of having a point guard that was picked as the preseason MVP of their league like Terence is picked in our league."

"They have some guys who can play. They played good defense and they played hard. We were fortunate to come back. I thought two guys on our bench allowed us to come back: Drew Nicholas, who's known as a shooter, but played tremendous defense the last six minutes of regulation and in overtime, and Mike Mardesich, who really got us stirred up-which is as important sometimes as how well you rebound or shoot. It wasn't pretty but it was a game that we could have lost very easily and is a great win for us."

"That's the way it goes. We've been shooting great threes - 38% going into this game. We didn't do that tonight. Saturday's another night. I don't want guys to stop shooting. If you're a shooter you think you're going to make five of your next six and that's how you have to be."

WINTHROP HEAD COACH GREGG MARSHALL: "Credit goes to Maryland for forcing the overtime. The crowd got into it and they made plays down the stretch. I thought it was our game in the overtime, but you have to give them credit for forcing the overtime."

"I want to take this opportunity to commend the guys who wear the garnet. They played their hearts out. They really played their hearts out and I'm really proud to be their basketball coach."

"We missed a few shots in the overtime, they hit some good shots and the momentum really swung in their favor. They did what they needed to do to come out with the victory and we didn't."

"Tyson [Waterman] has been a godsend for me as a new head coach. He's a tremendous young man and a great ambassador for our program. As we walked off the court, I told them that together, we're going to win a game line this. It obviously wasn't tonight. But I can feel the day coming."
