COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Senior attackman Brian Smith (Yorktown Heights, N.Y) scored three goals and added one assist to lead Salisbury State (18-1) to an 13-6 victory over Middlebury (Vt.) College (15-2) in the NCAA Division III men's lacrosse championship at Byrd Stadium. The victory was the third NCAA title in Salisbury's history, after titles in 1994 and 1995, all coming in Byrd Stadium. Smith was named as the most outstanding player of the championship game.

Smith scored two first half goals including one during a game opening 4-0 run which put the Seagulls on their way to victory early in the contest. Smith scored Salisbury's second and seventh goals as the Seagulls held a 7-2 halftime lead. Senior attackman Peter Troup (Yorktown Heights, N.Y) and junior midfielder Joe High (Phoenix, Md.) scored two goals each for Salisbury.

Middlebury's Adam Pascal (Pleasantville, N.Y.) scored one goal and added two assists to lead the Panthers. Pascal totaled 19 goals and five assists in four games during the 1999 NCAA Tournament to establish a tournament record for points with 24. Sophomore attackman Holt Hopkins (Baltimore, Md.) scored two goals for the Panthers.

Salisbury State goalie Jason Tarnow (Camillus, N.Y) recorded a season-high 19 saves. Middlebury's Dave Campbell (Norwalk, Conn.) recorded a season-high 17 saves.
