REGIONAL OUTLOOK: This weekend, the Terrapins will travel to Athens, Ga., to compete in this year's Southeast Regional Championships after clinching the seventh and final spot in the Southeast Region with a fourth-place finish at the East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championships. Going into the EAGL's, Maryland was ranked eighth behind rival Towson, but by defeating Towson, 192.675 - 192.450, the Terps moved into the seventh spot to beat out the Tigers. Also competing in the Southeast Regionals are Georgia, which finished first in the Southeast Region, Florida, West Virginia and N.C. State, both EAGL rivals, Kentucky and George Washington.

THE LAST TIME: 1996 marked the last time the Terps participated in the Southeast Regionals. In the meet, which was held at Florida, Maryland finished in seventh place with a score of 189.900. Georgia took first place (196.950), Florida second (195.375), Kentucky third (193.925), Towson fourth (192.650), West Virginia fifth (191.875) and N.C. State sixth place (191.875).

ALL-TIME AT SOUTHEAST REGIONALS: Maryland has competed in eight Southeast Regional Championships since 1984 and has amassed a record of 11-34. Its highest score came in 1996 when the Terps recorded a 189.900 and its best placing came in 1989 when the Terps finished in third place with a score of 186.150 behind Georgia and Florida.

THIS SEASON AGAINST SOUTHEAST REGION TEAMS: The Terps have competed against four Southeast Region teams on seven separate occasions during the regular season. They took on Florida on Jan. 30, but lost to the Gators despite posting a then season-high 191.350. Maryland competed against West Virginia on Feb. 14 and lost to the then No. 10 Mountaineers, 194.975 - 190.725. The Terps have met N.C. State twice, losing both times, the most recent at the Bubble Invitational at N.C. State where Maryland finished second out of five teams with a 192.075. Maryland has faced off against George Washington three times this year and has defeated it twice, while losing only once. The most recent meeting came on March 11 in the Terps last meet of the regular season. The Terps posted a season-high team score to defeat the Colonials, 193.475 - 193.200.

TERPS IN THE RANKINGS: After 12 meets, the Terrapins are ranked 36th in the country, seventh in the Southeast Region and fourth in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League for regional qualifying average, according to the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastic Coaches Poll. Individually, senior Megyn Byrnes is ranked 13th in the Southeast Region for all-around qualifying average and junior Christine Holcombe is ranked 16th. In the EAGL, Byrnes is ranked sixth and Holcombe is ranked 10th for all-around regional qualifying average.
