Women's Soccer to Host Duke and NC State

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland returns to Atlantic Coast Conference competition as it plays host to Duke (Friday, 7 p.m.) and NC State (Sunday, 2 p.m.) at Ludwig Field this week. The Terps have won four regular season ACC games in two of the last three seasons and have won a total of 10 in the last three years. Both times the Terps won four regular season conference games (1995 and 1997) they have played in the ACC tournament championship game. During both of their ACC championship game seasons, the Terps have defeated either Duke or NC State in the regular season.

SARVER JOINS ACC'S TOP 10 TOTAL POINTS LIST
Senior forward Keri Sarver (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) scored two goals against Texas Tech in the second round of the Maryland/Puma Invitational to increase her career point total to 113. Her 113 total career points moves her into a tie for 10th place all-time in the ACC. She enters Maryland's game vs. Duke tied with former North Carolina All-American and two-time National Player of the Year Shannon Higgins-Cirovski. Higgins is the wife of Sasho Cirovski, the head coach of the Maryland men's soccer team. Senior Emmy Harbo (Baton Rouge. La./The Runnels School) is ranked 12th in total points in conference history.

SARVER ON VERGE OF ACC'S TOP 15 IN ASSISTS Senior forward Keri Sarver has 27 career assists and is on the verge of joining the all-time ACC top 15. Sarver has been credited with one assist this season and needs only three more to appear on the list.

ANOTHER GAME-WINNER FOR SARVER
Senior forward Keri Sarver scored her 13th career game-winning goal as Maryland defeated Southern California, 3-0, Friday night in the first round of the Maryland/Puma Invitational It marked the program record 13th game winning goal of her career. Sarver scored three game-winning goals in 1997 including the goal which helped the Terps defeat Duke, 2-1, in the ACC Tournament semifinals.

KLOTZ NETS FIRST CAREER GOAL
Freshman Carrie Klotz (Homer, N.Y./Homer Central) scored her first career goal in Maryland's victory over Southern California in the first round of the Maryland/Puma Invitational. Klotz has accounted for three total points (one goal and one assist) in the most recent two games. She is the only freshman on the team who has accounted for at least one point during the first three games of the season.

SERRINS GAINS FIRST SHUTOUT OF THE SEASON
Sophomore goalie Riki-Ann Serrins (Mission Viejo, Calif/Santa Margarita) gained her first shutout of the season against Southern California in the first round of the Maryland/Puma Invitational. Serrins accounted for four saves including a spectacular stop of a penalty kick in the first half against the Trojans. She now has three career shutouts and has not allowed a goal in two career games played during the Maryland/Puma Invitational.

SERRINS PLAYS THE FIELD
Sophomore Riki-Ann Serrins was inserted into an attacking forward position against Texas Tech in the second round of the Maryland/Puma Invitational. It marked the first time she had played a field position since her arrival in College Park for the 1997 season.

SUCCESSFUL AGAIN IN LUDWIG FIELD OPENER
Maryland's 3-0 victory over Southern California upped the program record to 4-0 all-time in season home openers at Ludwig Field. The Terps have won three of the four games by shutout and allowed only one goal in four openers at Ludwig. Maryland's all-time record at Ludwig is a stellar 31-5-2 (82.9).

ANOTHER SHUTOUT BY THE DEFENSE
Maryland's defense pitched its first shutout of the season in its 3-0 victory over Southern California. It marked the eighth shutout in the last two seasons by the Terp defense and the 34th since the arrival of the current senior class in 1995. Maryland's defense has earned shutout victories in 34 of its last 77 games (44.1 percent) since the opening game of the 1995 season.

BAUSMAN IN THE ASSIST COLUMN
Senior tri-captain Abby Bausman (Glen Arm, Md./Dulaney) notched her third career assist against Texas Tech on Sunday. It marked the first assist for the defender since the 1996 season. She now has three career assists, and two career goals for seven career points.

SARVER IN THE MARYLAND/PUMA INVITATIONAL
Senior tri-captain Keri Saver recorded three goals in two games of the second annual Maryland/Puma Invitational last weekend. her two goals against Texas Tech marked the sixth time during her career that she had scored at least two goals in a single game.

BASALYGA MAKE FIRST APPEARANCE
Junior midfielder Lindsay Basalyga (Cincinnati, Ohio/Turpin) made her first appearance of the season against Texas Tech on Sunday. Basalyga, who scored three goals as a sophomore, had been hampered by a knee injury since the beginning of preseason training camp in August.

MCCULLOUGH MOVES UP ON GOALS LIST
Senior Robin McCullough (Covington, Ga./Newton County) scored her first goal of the season against Southern California in the first round of the Maryland/Puma Invitational. She now has 16 career goals which ties her for seventh all-time in the Maryland record book.

Senior forward Keri Sarver scored her first goal of the season and sophomore goalie Riki-Ann Serrins gained her first shutout of the season as Maryland defeated Southern California, 3-0, in the first round of the second annual Maryland/Puma invitational. The goal was Sarver's 41st of her career (second all-time at Maryland) and her program-leading total 109th career point. Sarver scored what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 2:14 mark of the first half. Senior forward Emmy Harbo was credited with an assist on the play.

Senior midfielder Amy Rutstein scored two goals including the game-winner with 3:02 remaining to lift Texas Tech to a 3-2 victory over Maryland in the championship game of the Maryland/Puma Invitational at Ludwig Field on Sunday. Rutstein had two goals while junior forward Kristy Frantz had one goal and two assists for the Red Raiders. Keri Sarver, who scored two goals on the day, led Maryland. She opened the scoring at the 1:29 mark and tied the game at two at the 86:31 mark.
