Women's Soccer Rides Five-Game Win Streak

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland, which is enjoying its longest winning streak since the 1996 season, plays host to No. 5 Florida in its only game this week. The Terps won two games at the University of Colorado Invitational last weekend as they defeated Texas, 3-1, and Colorado, 5-0. Earlier last week the Terps defeated then No. 23 George Mason, 4-2. Maryland's current five-game winning streak is the longest since the 1996 team won a program-record 14 consecutive games to open the season. The Terps enter Fridays game against Florida having won six of their last seven and having outscored their opponents, 20-4, since Sept. 18. Maryland is averaging nearly three goals scored per game this season.

SARVER NAMED ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Senior forward Keri Sarver (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) was named the ACC Player of the Week for her performances in Marylands three victories last week. She scored six goals and added two assists for 14 total points. It marked the third time during her career that she had earned ACC Player of the Week honors. She had previously earned the honor once each during the 1995 and 1997 seasons. Harbo earned the honor once during the 1995 season and twice during the 1996 season.

SARVER, HARBO CONTINUE TO MOVE UP ACC CHART Senior forwards Keri Sarver and Emmy Harbo (Baton Rouge, La./The Runnels School) continued to climb the all-time ACC total points list with their performances last week. Sarver totaled 14 points and Harbo was credited with six points last week. Sarver is currently ranked ninth in ACC history while Harbo is ranked 10th. Maryland is the only school in the ACC (besides North Carolina) to have multiple players rank in the ACCs top 10 in total points.

SARVER, HARBO ALSO AMONG ACC TRIPLE CROWN LEADERS Senior forward Keri Sarver is Marylands all-time leader in goals (52), assists (31) and total points (135). In the ACC record book, she is ranked eighth in goals, ninth in total points and tied for 14th in assists. Harbo is ranked ninth in goals and 10th in total points.

JANSS CONVERTS TWO PENALTY KICKS Senior midfielder Emily Janss (Brandon, Fla./Bloomingdale Senior) scored her first two goals of the season last week. Both came on penalty kicks -- one in Marylands victory over Texas and one in the Terps victory over Colorado. She has now scored on three career penalty kicks including one in the penalty kick phase of Marylands 1997 ACC Tournament victory over NC State.

1998 NOTES Senior forwards Keri Sarver and Emmy Harbo have been selected as Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week a school-record three times during their careers ... Keri Sarvers 12 goals is tied for the fourth best single-season total in school history ... Keri Sarvers 29 total points is the fourth best single season total in school history ... Seniors Keri Sarver and Robin McCullough have played in 83 career games -- the fifth highest total in school history ... Sophomore Vita McKenna recorded her first career assists in Marylands victory over NC State ... Junior midfielder Lyndsay Basalyga started her first game of the season against Colorado.

MYNARSKI WITH THE HOT FOOT Junior midfielder Jackie Mynarski (Somers, N.Y./Somers) scored two goals last week including the game-winner against No. 23 George Mason. Her goal against George Mason came at the 76:10 mark of the match and was scored shortly after the Patriots had drawn to within one at 2-1. Mynarski then scored her second career game-winning goal against Colorado in the second round of the University of Colorado Invitational. Earlier this season, she scored her first career game-winner against NC State on Sept. 20. She has scored four goals this season which ranks as the second best single-season performance of her career. She scored a career-high five goals during the 1997 season.

WOLFF GAINS SIXTH CAREER SHUTOUT Sophomore goalkeeper Ali Wolff (Richmond, Va./Godwin) earned her sixth career shutout against Colorado. It was her first shutout of the season. Wolff is now tied for fourth in Maryland history with six career shutouts.

MCCULLOUGH CONTINUES ASSIST CLIMB Senior Robin McCullough (Covington, Ga./Newton County) recorded three assists in three games last week to bring her season total to five and her career total to 20. Her assist on Keri Sarvers second goal against Colorado gave her 20 for her career and moved her into sole possession of third place in the Maryland record book.

VARELA RETURNS HOME IN STYLE Senior defender Laura Varela (Aurora, Colo./Overland) returned to her home state in style last week and recorded her first assist of the 1998 season in Marylands victory against Texas. Varela now has seven career assists.

BEIRNE BURNS IT UP Freshman Courtney Beirne (Westminster, Md./Westminster) recorded her second career assist in Marylands victory over No. 23 George Mason.

KIRKUP SIXTH TO REACH 185 VICTORIES Head coach Alan Kirkup earned his 185th career victory as Maryland defeated Colorado. He became the sixth coach in Division I womens soccer history to have reached the 185 victory level.

4 Marylands defense has allowed fewer goals (4) during the teams current five game winning-streak than it did during the first two games of the season (5) which were both losses.

5 Marylands five goals against Colorado tied its 1998 season high for goals in a single game. The Terps also scored five in their victory over NC State.

5 Sophomore goalkeeper Riki-Ann Serrins (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) has more victories this season (5) than she did during her inaugural collegiate season, 1997.

7 Marylands defense has allowed only seven goals in the last seven games, an average of 1.00 per game.

9 Senior forward Keri Sarver has scored nine goals in the last four games.

29 Keri Sarver and Emmy Harbo have set each other up for goals 29 times in the last four seasons.
