COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior forward Laron Profit, who scored 24 points in No. 5 Maryland's 89-76 victory over No. 7 North Carolina on Jan. 17, was Tuesday named the Atlantic Coast Conference men's basketball Player of the Week.
The Charleston, S.C., native made 7-of-14 shots from the field and 8-of-10 shots from the free throw line. The Terp's victory was their third in the last four years over North Carolina in Chapel Hill. It marked the first time a Maryland senior class has won at least three of four games during their careers in Chapel Hill.
Profit is one of 30 finalists for the John R. Wooden Award that is awarded annually to the college basketball Player of the Year. He is averaging 14.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
