Women's Gymnastics Takes on George Washington Tuesday

MARYLAND TO FACE OFF AGAINST COLONIALS: The Terrapins will travel to Washington, D.C. Tuesday to face George Washington (11-8 overall) for the second time this season. In their previous meeting at the Towson Invitational, the Terps defeated the Colonials 190.925 - 190.100.

TERRAPINS IN THE SUNSHINE: After facing George Washington, Maryland travels to sunny Bermuda to take on EAGL rivals No. 24 New Hampshire and Towson University. This will be the first meeting between the Terrapins and the Wildcats. The last regular season meeting came last year with New Hampshire defeating the Terrapins 192.050 - 189.900. In the three previous meetings against Towson this season, the Terrapins have defeated the Tigers twice. The last meeting came this past Sunday at the Towson Invitational where Maryland lost a close decision to Towson 192.200 - 190.925.

BREIDENBACH OUT: Senior Stacy Breidenbach (Hillsdale, N.J. / Pleasant Valley H.S. (Pa.)) missed this past weekend's Towson Invitational and will be out three to five weeks after breaking her left hand during one of last week's practices. Breidenbach has competed in six meets this season, taking first in the all-around twice and third in the all-around twice.

MARYLAND TEAMWORK PAYS DIVIDENDS: With Breidenbach out, several Terrapin gymnasts stepped to the forefront to take her place as the Terrapins finished second out of six teams in last weekend's Towson Invitational. Maryland scored a 190.925, with its only loss coming to host Towson University, which scored a 192.200. For the Terrapins, several individuals stepped up to compensate for the loss of Breidenbach. Senior Megyn Byrnes (Mahopac N.Y. / Mahopac H.S.) finished third in the all-around (38.150) and third on vault (9.675). Senior Alexis Moran (Minersville, Pa. / Minersville H.S.) posted a 9.65 on bars to finish third. Junior Jenny Engel (Monrovia, Md. / Linganore H.S.) posted an individual and team season-high on floor (9.725), earning her a third place finish. Freshman Karyn Fein (Charlotte, N.C. / Providence H.S.) tied for second on beam with a score of 9.725.

TERPS IN THE RANKINGS: After six meets, the Terrapins are ranked 34th in the country, seventh in the Southeast Region and fifth in the East Atlantic Gymnastics League, according to the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastic Coaches Poll. Individually, senior Stacy Breidenbach is ranked 16th in the Southeast Region for all-around average, senior Megyn Byrnes is ranked 20th, junior Christine Holcombe is ranked 26th and freshman Karyn Fein is ranked 33rd. In the EAGL, Breidenbach is ranked sixth, Bynres is ranked 10th, Holcombe is ranked 17th, and Fein is ranked 21st.
