Maryland's Sarver Named ACC Player of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland plays three games this week as it travels to play James Madison (Tuesday, Oct. 6) and plays host to Virginia (Friday, Oct. 9) and Connecticut (Sunday, Oct., 11). The three-game stretch is an important one for the Terps as JMU and Virginia are Mid-Atlantic regional opponents and Connecticut is among the Terps' top non-regional nationally ranked opponents this season. Maryland's home games against Virginia and Connecticut mark the first two of four consecutive home games.

HARBO REACHES 50 GOAL MARK
Senior forward Emmy Harbo (Baton Rouge, La./The Runnels School) became the second player in Maryland history and the ninth player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to score 50 career goals as she reached the milestone against Florida. Harbo scored two goals against the Gators and has 51 for her career.

SARVER, HARBO CONTINUE TO MOVE UP ACC CHART
Senior forwards Keri Sarver (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) and Emmy Harbo continued their climbs into the ACC total points stratosphere with their performances against Florida. Sarver had one assist to push her career points total to 136 while Harbo had two goals to hit the 125-point mark. Sarver needs only five points to pass Debbie Keller of North Carolina and move into eighth place all-time. Harbo is ranked directly behind Sarver.

RANKED OPPONENTS
Maryland plays its sixth and seventh ranked opponents this week as it plays host to Virginia (T-10 NSCAA/last week) and Connecticut (4 NSCAA/last week). The Terps have defeated two of their last three ranked opponents including No. 9 Duke, 3-1, on Sept. 18.

JANSS NAMED TO SOCCER AMERICA TEAM OF THE WEEK
Junior defender Emily Janss (Brandon, Fla./Bloomingdale Senior), who scored two penalty kick goals in a pair of Maryland victories over Texas and Colorado, was named to the Soccer America women's collegiate team of the week on Sept. 28. Janss has scored two goals on the season and seven during her three-year career. She scored a career-high five goals during the 1996 season. It marks the first time during her career that Janss has been named to the Soccer America team of the week.

MULTIPLE GOALS FOR HARBO
Emmy Harbo scored two goals against Florida to mark the first time this season and sixth time during her career that she had scored multiple goals in a single game. She scored her career-high of three goals against Navy on Oct. 22, 1997.

MYNARSKI RANKS THIRD IN SCORING RACE
Junior Jackie Mynarski (Somers, N.Y./Somers) ranks third in team scoring this season. In 10 games, she has scored four goals and added two assists for 10 total points. She averages 1.0 points per game. She ranked fifth on the team in 1997 with a career-high 12 points.

SARVER'S TWO HAT TRICKS A FIRST
Senior forward Keri Sarver has scored two hat tricks this season. She scored three goals in Maryland's victory over NC State on Sept. 20 and three against Colorado as the Terps won on Sept. 27. It marks the first time in school history that one player had scored multiple hat tricks in a single season in school history.

LACERTOSA A PARROT HEAD
Sophomore forward Tina Lacertosa (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquainas) has played in all 10 of Maryland's games this season. She has already played in more games this season than she did during her inaugural season, 1997. Maybe its her "parrot head" mentality and love for Jimmy Buffett songs. Listed below are her top five favorite Buffett songs:

GREER ON THE DEFENSIVE
Sophomore defender Terri Greer (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) has been a standout in the backfield for the Terps this season. After starting only five games last season, Greer has been a starter in all 10 games this season. She has led the Terps' defensive charge which has posted three shutouts in the first 10 games of the season.

Senior defender Abby Bausman (Glen Arm, Md./Dulaney) scored her first career goal against then No. 13 ranked James Madison on Sept. 4, 1997.

SARVER ON VERGE OF ACC'S TOP 15 IN ASSISTS
Senior forward Keri Sarver has 31 career assists and currently ranks 14th in ACC history. Sarver has been credited with seven assists.

FRESHMAN PLAYING IMPACT ROLES Freshmen Carrie Klotz (Homer, N.Y./Homer Central) and Courtney Beirne (Westminster, Md./Westminster) have played well for the Terps during the first ten games of the season. Klotz has started five of Maryland's 10 games and has scored one goal and been credited with one assist. Her goal came against USC in the first round of the Maryland/Puma Invitational. Beirne, who has started two games, has been credited with two assists for two total points.

BOYD AND EGAN EARN PLAYING TIME Jennifer Boyd (Herndon, Va./Herndon) and Marybeth Egan (Salem, Mass./Salem) both earned playing time against Florida. For Boyd, it was her third appearance of the season and for Egan it was her fourth appearance.

TERPS' SCORING AVERAGE UP FROM 1997 Maryland is averaging nearly three goals scored per game this season as compared to its 1997 average of just over two goals per game. The Terps are averaging 2.8 goals each match in 1998 and averaged 2.1 goals per game in 1997. Senior forward Keri Sarver has scored 12 goals in the first 10 games of the season -- she scored 14 during the entire 1997 season (24 games).

Senior forward Danielle Fotopoulos scored four goals and freshman forward Abby Wambach scored two goals and had one assist to lead No. 5 Florida past No. 20 Maryland, 7-2. Fotopoulos has now scored 97 goals in 73 career games. She ranks fifth all-time in NCAA Division I history. Maryland suffered its first loss in its last six games and fell to 6-4-0. Florida improved to 9-0-0.
