No. 9 Terp Gymnasts Hit the Road

at No. 14 West Virginia,
w/Rutgers & Ball State

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - With a record of 19-8, the Terrapins will travel to Morgantown, W.V., to compete in their last meet of the regular season on Saturday, March 20 at 7 p.m. against EAGL rivals No. 14 West Virginia, Rutgers, and Ball State. This marks the second meeting of the season for Maryland against the Mountaineers and the first of the season against both Rutgers and Ball State. The Terps faced West Virginia on Feb. 13 in College Park and handed the Mountaineers their only loss of the season. The win also marked Marylandis first over West Virginia since the 1989 season. Maryland is 12-22 all-time against West Virginia. The Terps have compiled an all-time record of 10-4 against Rutgers and have not faced the Scarlet Knights in regular season action since the 1995 season when Rutgers defeated Maryland, 174.275-169.300. The meeting against Ball State marks the first in school history.

TERPS SET ALL-TIME HIGH TEAM SCORE IN LAST HOME MEET OF SEASON
The Terps recorded an all-time team high score of 195.575, breaking the old mark of 195.200, set one week ago, to finish in second place against Rhode Island and Southeast Region rivals No. 15 Florida and George Washington. This marks the fifth time this season and the third consecutive meet that Maryland has set a new all-time high team score. The Terps also recorded season highs on vault (48.975) and floor (49.075) and tied a season high on bars (49.175). The Gators took first place with a score of 196.225 and the Colonials finished in third place with a 192.275. The Rams placed fourth with a score of 192.250. The win over George Washington marks the third this season for the Terps and the win over Rhode Island improves the Terpsi record at home against the Rams to 3-0 all-time.

GILLIAN COTE SETS NEW ALL-TIME HIGH IN ALL-AROUND AGAIN
Against No. 15 Florida, George Washington and Rhode Island, freshman Gillian Cote (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe) recorded the new Maryland all-time high in the all-around competition for the third time this season. She scored a 39.425 to finish in second place overall, marking the fifth time in the last six meets that she has scored a 39.175 or higher in the all-around competition. On bars, Cote scored a 9.9 for the third consecutive week, tying the Maryland all-time high and taking second place. Cote also finished in second place on beam with a score of 9.875, the second-highest of her career and the ninth highest score in school history. On floor, Cote finished in a tie for fourth place with a score of 9.875, the second highest of her career and the third highest in Maryland history. On vault, Cote recorded a 9.775, the second highest score of her career, finishing in seventh place overall.

JOHNSON DOMINATES ON BEAM AND VAULT
Freshman Kit Johnson (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem), as she has done all season long, dominated on both beam and vault against No. 15 Florida, George Washington and Rhode Island. On beam, Johnson took first place overall, scoring a 9.9, the second highest score of her career and the third highest score in school history. It also marks the fourth time in the last five meets that she has either finished in first or second place on beam and the third consecutive meet that she has recorded a score of 9.9 or better on beam. On vault, Johnson finished in a tie for third place with a score of 9.825, tying a career high and marking the third highest score in school history. Johnson is currently ranked No. 22 in the nation on beam.

FRESHMEN TWIN SISTER ACT SOARING ON BARS
The twin sister tandem of Lisa and Alyssa Mealey (Bensalem, Pa./Villa Jospeh Marie) are showing that two really is better than one, especially on bars. Against No. 15 Florida, George Washington and Rhode Island, Lisa tied a career high, scoring a 9.850 and finishing in a tie for fourth place. Alyssa also tied a career high on bars with a score of 9.8, placing her ninth overall.
