COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Defending Maryland/Puma Invitational champion Maryland plays host to Texas Tech, Towson University and the University of Southern California in the second edition of what has become one of the Mid-Atlantic region's premier early-season women's soccer tournaments. The Terps defeated Wake Forest (4-0) and Penn (2-0) to claim the crown of the inaugural event last season. A pair of doubleheaders are scheduled to begin Friday at 5 p.m. (Texas Tech vs. Towson and Maryland vs. USC) and Sunday at 11 a.m. (Maryland vs. Texas Tech and Towson vs. USC).
Harbo Adds to Career-Leading Goals Total
Senior Emmy Harbo (Baton Rouge, La./The Runnels School) scored her first goal of the season against Clemson to bring her school-record career total to 45.
Harbo and Sarver Among ACC's Top 10
Seniors Emmy Harbo and Keri Sarver (Massilon, Ohio/Jackson) rank ninth and 10th in ACC history in career goals scored.
Harbo's 45 goals rank her ninth while Sarver's 40 goals rank 10th all-time in Atlantic Coast Conference history.

Seniors Emmy Harbo and Keri Sarver rank second and third in goal scoring among current seniors in the ACC. Harbo and Sarver rank as the highest scoring duo in ACC history among players who did not play for North Carolina.

Terps in Home Openers at Ludwig Field
Maryland is a perfect 3-0 in season home openers at Ludwig Field. The facility, which opened at the beginning of the 1995 season, is named for longtime Terrapin friends Bob and Louise Ludwig. The Terps have an all-time record of 30-5-2 (83.8 winning percentage) at Ludwig. Entering the second annual Maryland/Puma Tournament, the Terps have won four consecutive regular season games and have lost only two of their last 14 games at Ludwig. The team had a pair of four-game winning streaks last season and won its first 10 games played here in 1995.

Harbo Moves up on Shot Chart
Senior Emmy Harbo moved into sole possession of third place on Maryland's all-time career shots list with five shots last week. She surpassed 1991 ACC All-Tournament selection Randi Goldblatt and has now taken 143 career shots. Senior Keri Sarver is the all-time school leader with 216 shots.

Klotz Records First Career Point
Freshman Carrie Klotz (Homer, N.Y./Homer Central) recorded her first career point when she was credited with an assist on Emmy Harbo's goal against Clemson. She is only the third freshman in the last two seasons to record at least one point during her inaugural season. Both Jennifer Boyd (Herndon, Va./Herndon) and Terri Greer (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) recorded assists during the 1997 season.
Keyes Makes Strong Return
Senior Tiffany Keyes (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East), who has one year of eligibility remaining after the 1998 season, returned to the field for the Terps last week after missing all of the 1997 season and the second half of the 1996. Keyes was sidelined by a knee injury. Keyes played against both Penn State and Clemson and looks to earn more playing time as the season goes on.
Wolff, Serrins Split Duties
Maryland's strong sophomore goalie duo of Ali Wolff (Richmond, Va./Godwin) and Riki-Ann Serrins (Mission Viejo, Calif/Santa Margarita) split the goalkeeping chores in the first two games of the season. Wolff started and played the entire game against Penn State and Serrins started and played against Clemson. Head coach Alan Kirkup employed the same rotation during the 1997 season when the Terps earned the No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Bierne in the Starting Lineup
Maryland native Courtney Bierne (Westminster, Md./Westminster) was the only freshman in the Terps' starting lineup against Penn State and Clemson. She became the first freshman to start her first career game since current junior Emily Janss (Brandon, Fla./Bloomingdale Senior) in the 1996 season opener.
Lacertosa Earns Playing Time
Sophomore Tina Lacertosa (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquainas) was inserted as substitute midfielder against both Penn State and Clemson. Lacertosa's hard work has helped her earn increased playing time after appearing in only six of Maryland's 24 games during the 1997 season.

State College, Pa. -- Freshman Bonnie Young scored a career-high three goals and freshman Emily Oleksiuk recorded her first career shutout as No. 25 Penn State defeated No. 13 Maryland at Jeffrey Field. Young's three goals accounted for the first hat trick in Penn State women's soccer history.

Clemson, S.C. -- Junior Beth Keller scored the game-winning goal at the 50:05 mark of the second half to lead No. 7 Clemson to a 2-1 victory over No. 13 Maryland at Riggs Field. Senior Emmy Harbo scored her first goal of the season in the first half. It was the 45th of her career.
