The Terrapins mens golf team will compete for the first time since Sept. 20 this weekend as they travel to Durham, N.C. to compete in the Duke Golf Classic.
The meet will take place on October 18-19 on the 54 hole, par 72, 7,100 yard Duke University Golf Course. Also competing in the meet are ACC rivals Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Virginia and Wake Forest. Non-conference opponents include Augusta State, the College of Charleston, East Tennessee State, Florida Southern, Furman, Nebraska, UNC-Charlotte, Northwestern, and Virginia Commonwealth.
TERPS HOOPS PLACES THIRD AT KESWICK CLUB CAVALIER CLASSIC
In the Terps last meet before their three week break, they placed third at the Keswick Club Cavalier Classic. The Terps shot a four-under par 848 to capture third, marking the third time in as many meets this season that Maryland has finished in the top three.
Maryland placed behind North Carolina, which won the team title by shooting a 21-under par 831, and Northwestern, which finished second with an 11-under par 841. Individually, the Terps placed three golfers in the top 25, two of whom finished in the top five. Seniors Miguel Riviera (Joppa, Md.) and Ed Flowerdew (Falmouth, Me.) both tied for fifth place after shooting four-under par. Both golfers also recorded personal season-low round scores, with Riviera shooting a 68 in both the first and second rounds and Flowerdew shooting a 67 in the second round.
TERPS WIN TEAM TITLE AT THE PALMETTO INTERCOLLEGIATE GOLF CLASSIC In the second meet of the season, the Terps shot a 10-over par 874 to win the team title at the Palmetto Intercollegiate Golf Classic at the Osprey Point Golf Course. Marylands final score of 874 bested North Florida by one stroke and South Carolina by two strokes.
In individual competition, the Terps placed two golfers in the top 20 as both junior Keith Unikel (Potomac, Md.) and Ed Flowerdew finished in 13th place with a score of three-over par. Unikel shot a third round 78 to accompany his first and second round scores of 70 and 71. This marked the first time in five rounds that he had not shot under par.
TERPS PLACE SECOND IN FIRST MEET OF SEASON In their first meet of the season, the Terps recorded a two-over par 866 to capture second-place out of 15 teams at the G. Gunby Jordan Intercollegiate. Held at the Callaway Gardens Moutainview Course in Pine Mountain, Ga., the Terps recorded round scores of 299, 287 and 280 to place them second behind Mississsippi State, which took the team title with an eight-under par 856.
