COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior designated hitter Craig Munroe (Thornhill, Ontario) hit his third home run in as many games for the University of Maryland (21-29-1), but it wasn't enough as the Terps fell to no. 15 Wake Forest 16-7 tonight at Shipley Field.
Maryland opened a 2-0 lead after the first inning on the strength of a two-run home run by senior shortstop Casey Trout (Gambrills, Md.). The game was tied after two innings, but the Demon Deacons (37-13) opened things up with a three-run third inning that included a solo home run by junior Danny Borrell.
Following the third, the Terps endured four scoreless innings and found themselves in a 13-3 hole after a four-run seventh inning for Wake Forest. The solo shot to center field by Munroe made it 16-4, and the team rallied for three more runs in the ninth.
Game two of the three-game series with the Demon Deacons will be held tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Shipley Field. The Terps' season finale is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at Shipley Field.
