
Five Terps Earn Big Ten Postseason Honors

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Five Terrapins received honors for the 2026 Big Ten Postseason Awards. Brayden Martin was featured on the All-Big Ten Third Team after his record breaking season. Bud Coombs, Ty Kaunas and Ryan Costello were all named to the All-Freshman Team after impressive debut seasons. Aden Hill received the Sportsmanship Award for his model performances, on and off the field.
Martin, who was named as the third baseman on the All-Big Ten Third Team, was a force to be reckoned with in the batter's box this season. He totaled a team-high 76 hits, which ranked top 10 in the conference. This contributed to his .488 on base percentage, which was second in the conference. Martin added on 21 stolen bases and 60 runs throughout the season, ranking second and fourth in the conference, respectively.
Martin broke two program records this season. The first coming on April 8 against Navy, where he reached base for a 33rd consecutive game to start the season, breaking the on-base streak to begin a season. He then went on to extend the record to 46 games. On May 12 against Georgetown, Martin recorded his 139th career walk to set a new program record. He finished with 56 walks this season, the most in the Big Ten.
Dual-athlete Bud Coombs impressed through his 30 appearances in his freshman season. He tallied 31 hits for a .360 batting average. Of those 31 hits, 18 were for extra bases and nine for home runs. He finished the season with a 1.270 OPS while putting up a .779 slugging percentage. Against Georgetown on May 12, Coombs posted three hits for one home run, two doubles, six RBI and four runs scored— all of which are the most he had in a single game this season.
Shortstop Ty Kaunas quickly impressed in his freshman season, being one of two Terps to start and play every single game. He recorded 62 hits and 16 doubles this season, both leading all freshmen in the Big Ten. Against Indiana on April 11, Kaunas went 4/4 at the plate, the most hits by a Maryland freshman in a single game since the 2024 season. He completed the season with 46 walks and 44 runs, sitting first and second, respectively amongst all freshmen in the conference.
Ryan Costello was the third and final Terp to be named to the All-Freshman Team. Costello was named Big Ten Freshmen of the Week on March 9 after his three home run week that included a go-ahead shot vs. Troy to win the series. Throughout the season, he went yard 15 times, leading all Big Ten Freshmen in home runs. Four of his 15 home runs were grand slams, tied for the most in the country. He finished the season with 59 RBI, the third most in the Big Ten. Costello also finished on 45 runs and 41 walks, ranking first and second, respectively amongst all freshmen in the Big Ten.
Newly Maryland graduate Aden Hill was honored with the Sportsmanship Award after his senior season with the Terps. This is awarded to one player on each team, to recognize those who display excellence beyond the field. Hill appeared in 40 games this season and hit three home runs and four doubles.
