COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The No. 4 ranked Maryland Terrapins extended their winning streak to seven games and senior Sascha Newmarch scored four goals and two assists as the Terps downed the seventh-ranked Temple Owls, 11-5, in women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Ludwig Field.
The Terps limited the Owls' high-powered offensive attack to only two goals in the first half while scoring seven goals of their own, including two by Newmarch. Freshman Meredith Egan scored all three of her goals in the first half. It was Egan's third hat trick of the season.
Temple's Claudia Ovchinnikoff would net two goals at the 53 and 55 minute marks in the second half, and the Owls were able to shut down the Maryland attack for a 15-minute span. Newmarch would close the game with back-to-back goals to solidify the Terps' win.
Maryland's Alex Kahoe recorded 12 saves while Temple's Iris Alvarado posted 20 saves.
The Terps improve to 7-2 overall while Temple falls to 6-2. The Terps travel to James Madison on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
NOTE: In Saturday's game against Old Dominion, Sascha Newmarch was credited with four goals. Upon further observation, she should have been credited with five goals while Allison Comito should have two (instead of three). The five goals are a new career-high for Newmarch.
