
JJ Suriano Named IWLCA National Goaltender of the Year

COLLEGE PARK, MD — Maryland women's lacrosse goaltender JJ Suriano was named the IWLCA Goaltender of the Year as announced by the Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Suriano becomes the second Maryland player to win National Player of the Year honors since Megan Taylor in 2019.
Suriano had a phenomenal season in goal. The junior finished the year 18–4 with 227 total saves, including 16 against No. 13 Syracuse, 13 against No. 12 Virginia, and 13 against No. 7 Johns Hopkins. She led the conference in saves per game (10.32), total saves (227), and save percentage (.510) throughout the season. Suriano also finished the year leading the nation in total saves.
Suriano earned numerous honors this season, including Big Ten Conference Goaltender of the Year, First-Team All-Big Ten, 2026 IWLCA All-American First Team, 2026 Inside Lacrosse All-American First Team, and 2026 USA Lacrosse All-American First Team honors. She was also named a top-25 finalist for the Tewaaraton Award.
Suriano becomes the seventh Terp to be named Big Ten Goaltender of the Year. The last Maryland player to win the award was Emily Sterling in 2023.
