Baseball Falls to Wolfpack

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- A four run ninth inning by NC State lifted the Wolfpack to a 7-5 win over the Terps this afternoon at Shipley Field. NC State improves to 13-5 overall (1-1 in the ACC), while the Terps fall to 4-9 (0-3 in the ACC).
With the score tied 3-3 after eight innings, Keith Walsh and Brain Ward each hit two run homers with two outs in the ninth inning for NC State. Maryland starter Mike Wooden pitched 8 2/3 innings before giving up the pair of home runs. Wooden scattered 10 hits and struck out a career-high 12 batters in the loss.
NC State scored in the top of the first when Jake Weber scored with the bases loaded on a Adrean Acevado groundout. The Terps responded in the bottom of the inning as Casey Trout hit his third home run of the season.
Maryland scored two runs in the fourth on a Chris Blue home run that scored Jason Schlegel to take a 3-1 lead, but NC State tied the score in the sixth on a Matt Postell sacrifice fly and a Craig Lee single that scored Brad Piercy.
The Terps and Wolfpack continue the series tomorrow with a 2:00 p.m. start at Shipley Field.
