Former Terps Soccer Player Named Towson Head Coach

July 19, 1999

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Leslie Kerhin, a three-time letterwinner as a member of the Terrapin women's soccer team, has been named as the head coach at Towson University, it has been announced by Towson Director of Athletics, Dr. Wayne Edwards.

Kerhin takes the job at Towson after spending the past two years at the University of Missouri. She replaces Woody Sherwood, who resigned last month to become the head coach at Butler University.

Kerhin is a graduate of Parkville High School in Baltimore and begins her second coaching stint with the Tigers. She served as an assistant coach at Towson during the 1996 season. In her role as an assistant to Ron Rainey, she helped the Tigers win their first America East championship. The Tigers posted a 10-7-2 record during her one season.

Kerhin graduated from Maryland in 1995. During her playing career in College Park, the Terps earned their first ever national ranking (1993), defeated their first-ever ranked team (1994), played in their first-ever ACC Tournament championship game (1995) and played in their first-ever NCAA Tournament (1995).

Kerhin currently ranks tied for fifth in school history with 15 assists. She was tied for the team lead in goals (five) and points (15) in 1993.

Prior to her playing days at Maryland, she earned junior college All-American honors during her one season at Essex Community College and was an all-state first-team selection as a senior at Parkville.
