Postgame Head Coaches' Quotes-Maryland Men's Basketball vs. Coastal Carolina

Jan. 2, 2000

Recap| Box Score| Notes

Gary Williams, Maryland

"We had a couple guys do really good individually. I thought Danny Miller's job on Gladieux was exceptionally well. In the first seven or eight minutes, he just wouldn't give him any looks. I think that took something away from their offense. Juan Dixon had 10 rebounds to go along with his points. Both of those guys were working very hard out there. The other thing is we had 30 assists and sometimes in a game like this, that won't happen. It was good to see us be unselfish throughout the game. We had very good defensive intensity at the start of the game. We were very concerned about their ability to shoot the three and we were able to do something about it. It's a good way to end this part of our season. We can start the ACC with a very positive feeling. Hopefully we can work really hard this week to get ready to play at NC State."

"It always feels good when all the guys get to contribute. We were able to do that today."

Pete Strickland, Coastal Carolina

On comparing this loss to the Furman loss:

"In this game the effort was better. Against Furman, it was a total collapse. This one seems like more of a collapse, but Maryland had a lot to do with it. We battled for the most part. Maryland is just awful good, and they're playing well, and they defend well. I thought our kids held their heads high. The effort was good, the execution wasn't. As you get frustrated and discouraged... sometimes when guys come back to their hometown play better generally, but sometimes when things really go wrong they can play worse."
