Postgame Notes following Maryland's 74-58 win at Clemson
Maryland won its ACC road opener for the first time since a 69-54 win at Florida State on Jan. 5, 1994.
The 16-point victory was the Terps' largest-ever at Littlejohn Coliseum, and Maryland's largest over an ACC road opponent since a 72-49 win at Florida State on Jan. 14, 1996.
Tiffany Brown scored a career-high 29 points while breaking her own school record with eight 3-point baskets. Brown had six 3-pointers and 21 points by halftime.
It marked the third time in her career that Brown had either broken or matched the school's record for 3- point baskets in a game. She is the Terps' all-time 3-point leader, hitting 8 of 16 at Clemson and 142 of 456 in her career.
Brown, who set the ACC single-game mark with 18 assists last season, was one 3-pointer shy of matching the league mark for 3-point field goals. She will move among the ACC's top 15 in 3FGs made and attempted later this season.
Brown has scored in double figures in 10 of 13 games this season. After just 13 games, she already has surpassed 3-point and scoring totals from each of her sophomore and junior seasons. Her 39 3-point field goals this season are already No. 2 on the Terps' all-time season charts, trailing her own record of 48 set as a freshman in 1997.
Other career-high performances in the Clemson game included 15 points by sophomore center Rosita Melbourne and nine rebounds by sophomore guard March? Strickland. Melbourne also had a game-high 10 rebounds to notch the first double-double of her career.
Maryland has started the same starting lineup in eight straight games: Deedee Warley, Rosita Melbourne, Tiffany Brown, Vicki Brick and March? Strickland. Four of the five are among Maryland's nine freshmen and sophomores.
Brown and Strickland are the only players to start in all 13 games this season. Strickland carries a streak of 40 consecutive starts into Sunday's game at NC State.
The Clemson win was Maryland's first over a team receiving national poll votes since an upset of No. 9 NC State in the 1998 ACC Tournament.
Maryland is 9-4 after 13 games in 2000. In 1999, the Terps were 2-11 at this stage.
Entering the game with its highest RPI rating in two seasons, No. 97, the Clemson game was the Terps' first over a team with a Top 100 RPI rating since the 1997 ACC Tournament upset of NC State.
