COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Juan Dixon scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half as No. 6 Maryland pulled away to a 91-55 exhibition victory over the California All-Stars on Wednesday night.
Maryland led by only four points at halftime before Dixon led a second-half surge that buried the All-Stars, a team of former college players who are 1-9 on their exhibition tour.
It was the last of two preseason games for the Terrapins, who open the season Monday against Louisville in the Maui Invitational. Maryland earlier beat a professional team from London by 33 points.
Terence Morris scored 14 points and Lonny Baxter had 12. Dixon finished 10-for-14 from the field after missing three of his five shots before halftime.
Chudney Gray scored 22 points for the All-Stars.
Maryland opened the second half with a 14-5 run to take a 48-35 lead. Danny Miller scored five points and Morris had two baskets in the surge.
Moments later, Dixon and 7-foot center Mike Mardesich each scored four points in a 10-2 spurt that put Maryland up by 21.
Despite shooting 39 percent and missing all nine of their 3-point attempts, the Terrapins led 34-30 at halftime.
After the All-Stars took a 5-2 lead, Maryland coach Gary Williams called a timeout and yanked his starting unit. The second team, which consists of five players who could start for many Division I teams, quickly turned things around.
Mardesich scored two baskets during a 10-3 surge. Williams put the starters back in with 11:49 left, and Baxter scored six points in a 10-3 run that made it 22-16.
